      Need Opinions!

I have a friend in Minnesota and I am trying to convince him to bring his car up to date and still maintain a street driver without destroying it by going to far with "Do Dads"!

He owns a black '73 AMX he's owned since new but he has the stance all wrong, he removed his lower moldings and put '90's Boyd Street Rod wheels on it.

I asked for a side shot of his car so I could change it in the computer to give him an idea of what it "Could" look like without going overboard. I lowered the car, put the rocker molding back on to thin the car out and add a red pinstripe to go with future Wilwood Red caliper disc brakes and added Vintage Wheel Works V45's with a slight Titanium shade to them. This would give him 4 elements of color accents on a black car over the current two of just black and chrome.

The guy is really stubborn but if you guys chime in, maybe I can convince him to "Fix" his car. It has potential with a nice street friendly 420 HP 401. Help my friend get out of the '80's and '90's!!!!!

What do you think? Top current look, or bottom change with corrected stance? Please be specific if you can.

Thanks, that's a start. He's a minimum of 5 inches too high in the back and 2 inches too high in the front. Keep em coming!

I'm not a fan of chrome wheels or the stinkbug stance so the 2nd one is a no-brainer (I don't think you'd find anyone that comes to this forum whose going to vote for the top one). I have 16x8 V40s on my car and love them. Prefer the more angular spokes over the more rounded V45s (see my blog for pics of these wheels on a '73 AMX).

But what does your friend really want? Does he just not know any better or does he WANT it to look like that? I have a buddy who built a '69 AMX. He grew up in Kenosha and wanted an old school hot rod like what was around when he was younger (he's only a couple of years older than me). he wanted BF Goodrich white letter tires and 15" Cragars! that was it and no amount of of me talking about 17" rims and better selection of rubber would change his mind... (I also couldn't convince him to go for an overdrive tranny, he kept the stock t10 and cruises the hwy at 3000rpm @ 70mph)...

good luck trying to convert him. hopefully you'll have better luck than I did
