      using filler on subframe

      So I tried doing a search topic seams pretty vague. Looking for any posts or topics on using filler on subframe seams. Just loking to clean up and make it look nice. I almost considered the over the top look of the DSE display subframe (with their coilover conversion), but don't know how durable the finish would be. Any direction to post or advice would be appreciated.

      Why would you want to cover up the seams on subframe with filler? Weld the seams and grind the welds smooth instead of filler if you don't want to pick chunks of filler few months down the road. Prime with epoxy and paint or get it powdercoated .

      My 2 cents are that on a stock type subframe, to clean it up it is possible to use filler . I wouldn't use it where something solidly bolts through the filler onto the subframe, but to clean up the seams, it should hold up. I would weld the seam solid first then grind as smooth as reasonably possible, sandblast the entire subframe, then to epoxy then filler, then primer filler, then paint.

      DSE's subframe is a completely differnt beast that the original subframes. They are hydroformed one piece tubes where the originals are stamped/ welded setions. DSE's stuff shouldn't require much /any real filling.

      I agree, just trying to see what everyone is doing. There doesn't seem to be alot of information on it. Right now I am in the middle of installing my Chicane coilover kit, repairing body mounts, and redoing and welding up the seams in my factory frame. I know in the end the appearance will be better than stock. Just want a nice finish and appearance.

      Kevin,
      I wasn't referring to the new frame. They used to have a demo frame that was gray with all their bolt on stuff on it and their coil over conversion, not to be confused with the hydroformed frame.

      We do it on some of the gouges and pit marks on the frames, not smoothing welds. We re-weld originals to make 'em look better and stronger, but bodywork the flat spots like any other part of the car.

      Second that. I welded and ground the heck out of mine. Then used Allmetal for anything else.
