      Need shorty headers for BBC

I have a 69 camaro with air ride and a 454. I have regular length headers and they hit once in a while and are getting pretty banged up on the right side. I was thinking of installing shorty headers on my Gen. 6 454. Any suggestions on brands. I also have PS with a AGR steering box.

Patriot offers a nice mid length in 1 7/8".

These Doug's #D306 should suit your needs. nice fit, heavy wall tubing, 3/8" flanges

dont waste your money on shortys as they offer hardly any performance gain. just get a nice set of manifolds.

The midlength headers as pictured above have been proven many times to out flow the restrictive cast iron standard big block manifolds.

I'm very happy with my Sanderson BB2s. Mine fit great around the ps box and have plenty of ground clearance.

I tried the Patriots firt and they did not fit around the ps box.

I also understand that lots of folks "port" their manifolds for better flow. I just dont understand why anyone would go through the expense of adding headers if they arent long tube. With all the varieties of headers now there should be one that fits. I tried several on my Chevelle and found the Hedmans to fit well and provide the same amount of ground clearance that manifolds would. They sit my exhaust about 1/8 inch from the transmission crossmember. you cant ask for any better than that.

Oh yeah. My first response was about shorty headers. I know nothing about midlength headers so I cant comment on that.

Anybody know if the Dougs D306 will fit around the Power steering box?

They will fit with the factory power steering box, but not the larger quick ratio 825 box.

what is the difference between the stock ps box and a 825 close ratio? I thought all the earlier gm power steering gears had the same external dimensions.

I put the dougs headers pictured above on my 77 TA/502 BBC with Hotchkis tvs , and they worked out great. My hooker long tubes got destroyed after the TVS install, way too low. Hacked a ring out of the front springs to get the rake I wanted.
