      How do I fix this?

This is the drivers side rear corner of my 69 firebird project. The previous owner installed new full quarters and left the rear tail panel original. The quarter panel lip doesn't fit flush with the tail panel at the seem. The tail panel sits nearly flush at the bottom, and sits in about 1/4" at the top. The passenger side looks ok and I plan to fill in the seem with weld. I would like to do the same with the driver's side, but the uneven corner has me baffled.

I would have a body shop slit the panels and reweld in proper alignment if it were me.

It sounds like you might have some welding experience, by stating your planning to weld in the seam on the opposite side. If this is the case, I would use a 1/16 cut off blade or smaller and slice a line along the raised section. This will allow for some relief of the sheet metal. Then use some body hammers and/or hard rubber hammer to shape that sheet metal down. You should be able to get that relief cut to close and eventually shaped the way you want. Ta da...now you can weld both seams. Just be carefull not to remove to much material when your grinding down your welds to final sheat metal prep.

      Thats my 3 cents

Are you describing cutting the vertical seam on the quarter panel corner? The corner of the quarter is the area that is higher than the tail panel.

Send more pictures. Any time you have a raised section of sheet metal, you need to shrink and/or cut a relief. Or if your trying to raise a section that is lower, then you need to stretch the metal and/or slice it and add metal. Ill need more detailed pictures at different angles to answer your question completely....Just remember if this is out of your comfort zone of skill sets, then it may be better to take it to a body shop. However, practice makes perfect. Most everyone can learn.

      Thats my 3 cents.
