Nitto Drag Radials

Any of you guys running Nitto drag radials and getting them to hook? Took my 65 Impala ss to the track and just spun them all day. I tried them at 30, 25, and 20 Psi all with the same results. My best time was a 12.40 at 117 mph with a 2.2 60 foot.

Which ones? The 555r's or the nt-05r's?

What is your rear suspension setup? How much antisquat? What RPM do you launch at? How old are the tires?

I'm using the NT-555 R 305 45 18's. I have southside lower control arms and tubular adjustable uppers. Long burnouts did not seem to help.

Im guessing your making a good amount of power given that you trapped 117mph in a car that size. The 555r's arent known for there ability to hook up with any kinda of power going to them. My 1st choice would be the M/T drag radials, and then the Nitto nt-05r's, they both have the same size your using now.

Going back to the track Friday to try out some Hoosier slicks I picked up at a swap meet.

you should pick up at least 6 tenths

Drop your tire pressure, it's way to much. You should try 12lbs first then drop them in 1 lb increments until your 60 ft time drastically improves. Don't go below 8lbs. Also, try leaving at a lower RPM and make sure you heat those tires up VERY well. They hook great if they are hot and sticky.

The slicks I got were junk so I guess I will give the Nittos on more shot and drop the pressure. Thanks

I wouldnt go below 12psi, most people I know running D/Rs usually run ~15psi.
I dont know about Nitto but M/T recomends 12-16 psi and not to go below 11psi

ET STREET RADIAL

On the racetrack DO NOT use starting pressures below 11 psi.



Recommend pressures for:

P295 and larger sizes: 12-16 psi

P275 and smaller sizes: 14-18 psi

On the highway we recommend running 75% -100% of maximum psi stated on the sidewall of the tire. This will vary depending on the weight of the vehicle.
