Chevy 8.2 ?'s

Well come to find out my 67 GTO has a Chevy 8.2 rear in it. Looking for a 8.5 but if I cant find one this is going to go back in. The driver side axle seal has been leaking so tore it apart to change seal. Well the axle is pitted really bad so need a new one. The spider gears look horrible looks like some one has been in there already and didnt know what they were doing(hammer marks where pin goes in). My worries are with the main caps what happens if they if they didnt mark them and just put them in? Thanks

You need to find out what year this 8.2 is. If it's a '64 then the axles will have different splines and you will have to get the correct axle to fit it.

If the caps are not on right then it can cause bearing problems. You can check the bearing bore to see if the caps are on right.

Yes the rear is a 64 looked at the caps but cant tell will have to check again.
