      Mather Autocross August 15

I am trying to figure out what class I will be in for my first autocross. It is SCCA and I think I will be in street modified. This is my first time, so trying to get an idea before I get there.

I have a 67 camaro, with a superchaer and 5 speed transmission, 315 rear tire, disc brakes. DSE leafs in back, and tubular arms up front.

Does street modified sound like the group I would be in?

      Thanks for any help.

      Mike

I'd have to double check the rules, but its the blower that woudl class you way higher. Most likely you'd be DSP or ESP(like me) with out it.

Doesn't SCCA have an open run class for the street cars that are heavily modified but not on competition with the full race Pro-Solo cars? Where is this event?

The event is at Mather in Sacramento Ca. I am just trying to gather some info before I get there. I have read thru the rule book, just a little unsure.

I am going to get my feet wet, so no matter what class I am in, I am not in it for the competion. I dont care if the put me with bicycles, or full on race cars at this point.

My best advise to that would be to show up to any local SCCA event, and just register for X runs.

Bryce, I know you're busy with this whole "family/house/car building" stuff, but we seriously need to go do something, lol.

      Alright that was fun!!!!

They placed me in modified because of the supercharger which I didnt care. Mt first run was a 86.xxx, equal to a volkswagon bug. LOL. Second run I drove a little better, alot harder, and got a 79.xxx. Things were looking up. By the fourth run I was down to a 75.xxx which mustang was at 73.xxx and vettes were running 70.xxx.

There was one corner where I learned about weight transfer. It was sharp 90 degree, and the first time I felt the car pushing, so I slowed for the corner. The second time, I kept my speed, then once I felt the push i slightly stabbed the brakes, the car turned, and I was able to get back on the gas quickly.

So not a bad start, I want to do this again. I learned alot, especially simple things like a hat can help.

I went to my second autocross Sunday. Had a blast and was able to push the car a little harder this time. My fastest was a 65.xxx which is what the new mustangs were running. My last run I pushed too hard and spun out. Time for some improvements and tires this winter.

My family came to watch me, and my dad got to ride too. That was fun, since it started out as my parents car before they gave it to me. My wonderful wife took the pictures.

My boys had to entertain themselves somehow while they waited for my turn.

Looks like a lot of fun, Mike! Way to represent. I hope I can make it out to Mather one of these days...if I stop breaking my car!

Nice looking car. Glad you had fun. That's what it's all about. Don't go to a road race track... the addiction is even worse!
