      angle

How much angle should the front tires turn before they hit the frame?.....I'm wondering how far you need to be able to turn the front wheels?......angle please
      Thanks

Depends on the kind of racing you're going to do, what your wheelbase is, and how quick your steering is, can we get some more info from you on the set-up?

What sort of turn circle diameter are you looking for?

If this car is going to see much street duty, turn circle diameters of over 40' are somewhat cumbersome to deal with.

You can estimate the amount of turn angle from your maximum desired turn circle and wheelbase using a little trig.

How much arm-flailing might be involved is a separate matter.

Specs I vaguely remember from my 103" wheelbase 626 put the angle you're looking for at 32° or so (it's different inside vs outside due to Ackermann correction).

It's the autocross requirement that governs here. Presumably this is going to run in C-Prepared?

If so, 30° ought to be plenty to get the car around even tight courses. I think as you get better (and start looking/thinking ahead better) you may actually need less steering than you think you do when you're a novice (and reacting to each cone when you're finally 'at' it).

If you're running a recirculating ball, you might want to consider a steering quickener (they come in 1.5 and 2.0). Every once in a while when I was autocrossing the 1979 Malibu I'd find I wanted slightly more steering lock (up at the steering wheel) than I could get up to - or out of - quickly enough. But I never ran up against the end of steering travel.

FWIW, R&T has the '79 Malibu listed with a turn circle of 37.2', 108" WB, and 3.2 turns lock to lock. Probably similar to your car except perhaps for the number of turns lock to lock.

I'd try to get at least 30, 35 degrees would be better.

What is the tire size? Dropped spindle or standard height?
