project 67 camaro about to start!

i have been lurking here for a little while trying to gather some info and a direction to aim for my car. it is a 67 camaro, stock 230i6 with a powerglide auto. it is #1430 iirc. it is my first car since i was 15 (now 37) and after hearing many stories of "man, i wish i never would have sold my high school car......" i knew it was something i was never going to sell. well i just sold my other project and instead of buying a new one and putting this build off even more, i am changing gears and jumping on it!! right now it is basically a shell. i ripped it apart 15 years ago, and it has sat inside my shop covered all those years since then. no damage, and only very minor surface rust. it am hoping to have it back from blasting in about a month and access if any metal needs to be replaced.
i have a few goals i know i have to hit. car will have 1000hp, corner to the best of it's abilities, be comfortable and storage space for long trips, and look like nothing else! heavy emphasis on the comfortable reliable cruiser part! i will be flaring the fenders, giving it a wide stance and other subtle body mods. flushed out glass, hids, and other moderization mods with keeping the stock lines.
engine is slated as a twin turbo ls something, with a viper t56 (already have one). wheels will be decided later, but expect something in the 19x11 and 20x13 size. i have been planning an independant rear for years, but apparently, wayne due went out of business a couple years ago for the c4 brackets, lol. i may scrap the idea, but you never know. i saw one guy swapping in a 350z rear, and i know they make bad ass axles for those rears, but still not 100% confident it will hold up to my power levels. the install with it's modular design would be easy though and i did come from the 350z world and had a 850rwhp Z i sold last year and i never had a prob even with stock axles driving it somewhat easy. best e.t. i heard on the stock rear was in the low 9's, so they will hold some power! i know a guy running 7.99 in a viper with stock rear and stock t56!!!
i have questions as far as the front though. a new bolt in subframe sounds great, and i actually have a full c5 front suspension and brakes sitting in the garage. but, is it worth the extra expense? even with my front wheels being that wide and wanting to flare the fenders to get a fat stance, i want to keep the wheels to a positive offset to keep my scrub radius in check. back wheels will be big negative offset!!!
so big question- looking for ideas for the front? money is/isn't an issue if you know what i mean. willing to spend for the best cost effective solutions! the longer a=arms the better, and may need that to get my stance and keeping a good scrub radius.

no pics of the camaro yet, but here is a couple of my other rigs. viper is my current fun ride. manta was my last project- sold. 03 350z built motor tt 150hp shot and all the goods to go with it!! sold

in progress of building rear diffuser set up

almost forgot, my chopper. i have built all of these cars/bike myself. engines, body/paint, interiors. everything except having tires mounted, lol!!

btw- chopper is for sale to help fund the camaro. finished it in feb 2009. 10 miles on it!! full polished el bruto 127" with rsd 6 spd. won 2009 portland roadster show best custom, and best engine overall for bikes. it is an imacculate build!! 145rwhp 150tq. asking $25k 2 years ago it would have pulled $40k+ :(

Wow Nice viper! I'm in Oregon too. Judging by your other cars this should be an awesome build, good luck!

thanks guys. my automotive interest is more than a hobby i guess, more like an addiction, hahaa
i am gonna like the freedom of this build. will be kinda like the chopper. unlike the 350z build where you have sooooo much electronics to redo or try to fool to get it to think it is stock, the camaro brings things back to basics.
going for an over the top 80's cafe racer look, but updated more like the newer trans am cars (if that makes sence, lol). maybe a set of center lock trans am series wheels and a full body widening will be the ticket with the right color combo.

how do you get the feel of these cars, into a 67 camaro? lol

      off and running!!

well after a couple months of solid research and planning, finally ordering alot of my parts for the build. a couple things have changed.
2008 tahoe 5.3. just gonna put on a prettier intake and fab up a twin turbo set up. actually cheaper to go this route than try to get 500hp n/a. once car is done, stronger engine will be built then just swap out the 5.3 and turn boost up.
tubular a-arms, ats afx spindles, kore3 c6 zo6 brakes, coil over kit, 19x10f and 20x13 rear 3pc wheels. viper t56. lots of other stuff to install and supporting mods. next week is gonna be a revolving door with ups,fed ex, and freight trucks, hahaha.
just gonna do a solid axle rear. keeping my custom made leafs and adding some caltracs and adlustable shocks.
wheels will be sticking out 1.5" front and 2.25" rear. did this on purpose to go for more of an 80's cafe style, with new school tech. so expect flares and a promod body kit. should be abit crazy and different looking.
heres a pic of what i'm starting with. perfect way to start!!

i did entertain the idea of tossing in a viper v10 in the camaro, lol. but they are so expensive to build up. gonna do twin gt35's on the 5.3 though. so it won't have the instant torque of a 488c.i. v10, but it won't be far behind

i went on the vca a couple times. it is nicknamed "the morgue". couldn't believe you had to pay to get access to some of the mechanical threads. seemed to defeat the purpose of an online forum and designed to line one guys pockets, (which had already pissed me off and vow to never buy parts from) you probably know the name.
it is viper alley all the way for me!!!

well, into the 5 digit mark now after a week! but, have nearly everything for a functional drivetrain. need to start hitting my supporting mods now. radiator, fuel tank, fuel system etc. waiting on one more piece to button up the front suspension. all trans parts are here to mod the viper trans for the ls1 and replace a few syncros, so that will be my next project. waiting on tons of parts in transit!! everyday is like christmas, haha.
will be posting more pics as more interesting parts come in. still a week or so out on the motor getting here :(

Looks like Grand Sport brakes - same as z06 just silver... I have to say I like prefer the red z06 brakes when I installed them on my Vette.

      Parts list looks great!!

thanks. i got the brakes from kore3. you can get them in silver or red. it is pretty new for them to get them in silver, but only silver comes with pins, saving some money. if you could believe, rotors, calipers, hawk ceramic pads, and braided brake lines and hardware was all under $1k!!! hard to pass up. will wait till car is ready for paint to determine final color on the calipers and rotor centers.
will make stencils to inprint camaro on them too.

new project name- gonna be "wtf" or "i just shat my pants"

been completing the drivetrain over the last month. the last parts will be here this next week. edelbrock pro-flo intake and a pair of gt35-r's. got all my bends also hot and cold, and the intercooler could not have worked out better. turbo plumbing will take about 1/2 day. still in mock up scenario.
not real good on the step by step pics. rest assured. it will be good.
