drop leafs - what rear shocks
I've been doing some reading including "new shocks installed" below this thread and can't seem to come up with a consensus on the right shocks to use on a dropped leaf car. I know Koni classics are good but is there anything else that will work with 2" of drop. There was a thread which talked about 70ish mustang shocks as well. Does anyone have a dropped camaro or firebird on leafs that doesn't have a crossmember for shock travel that is happy with their shocks where the shocks don't bottom out? recommendations other than Koni or is that the way to go?
thanks
Scott

Koni is worth the money IMO. For the performance and the life of the shock.

07-21-2010 #3Ishmael, take a look at the shocks at www.pro-touringf-body.com I have the rear shocks set at soft and am happy with them. I am not lowered in the back but pretty sure these are designed to work with lowered cars too.

07-22-2010 #4I used 64-70 Mustang rear Bilstein shocks from Race Car Dynamincs. I do have a shock crossmember but it is fully under the trunk floor. They are about 2" shorter than stock if I remember right. They also have different mounts that need to be fabricated. If your trying to find something cheaper, you can go on Summit's site and look at shock specs, just search until you find the right length and style. I decided on the Mustang units because I did not want to cut the truck floor but was ok with installind a crossmember bar. The Mustang is similiar weight to my Nova.

In the same process. The rear will be lowered 3" or so, shocks have been relocated to the front of the axle. Mounting them in the upper stock location is not an option.
Options:
A. create a DSE type of channel, to make up for the 3" of lowering..
B. use a CE type of crossmember
C. Make your own, AFTER finding the correct shock to use.
AHHHHHH...any input would be great. Show us the easy way, medium, and the hard way....lmao
