      Insane turbine engine boat.

I LOVE turbine engines and I always have. I'm sure my desire for a twin turbo car stems from that.

Man oh man.. I need to hit the lottery some day.

This guy Arneson makes surface drives. He had a turbine engine in his boats and drove them on the Carquinez Straight off the shores of Benicia. They were loud...and awesome. Once a there were boat races on the Straight. The WHOLE city could hear them.

This one has a 1350hp turbine.

One of the Arneson Surface Drives in another boat. Love the ignition.

Wohooo!! that has to be a blast to ride. Amazing how his tech makes those boats run so flat.
      Thanks for posting that!

Doesn't Prodigy's new push button start make your car sound like that at strart up? LOL

One of the many reasons I'm still on active duty in the Air Force guys! Nothing like standing outside with your first cup of morning coffee to hear the ignition, taxi, and takeoff of an F-15E!!

You'd have loved watching the 50s turbine car whizzing round the track at le mans last weekend. Awesome.

I've been meaning to look up what it was...Anyone have any ideas?

It was silver, had three large exhausts out of the back.

Remember, big engines are for those trying to compensate for something.

..they used to test the Nor-techs in the river by us, i cant count the times ive had one of those blow by us in our 20ft center console..never gets old. They still have what i think is their first shop in Cape Coral which is their engine shop and the smaller v hulls; its a few blocks from our shop. Its amazing hearing those 1000hp big blocks running full throttle for several minutes on the dyno..have you seen their 80 footer yet??

My other passion is boats....seen lots of turbine boats over the years at various Poker Runs.....pretty cool (now that they got their transmissions/docking manners sorted out) and I fully understand why guys run them (as the time between rebuilds is like 10 fold longer than that of a piston engine in the 1000 to 1300hp range) but they are so INSANELY loud (another level even compared to the supercharged piston boats) their not really good/practical for the sport of performance power boating....we have enough people that hate us already.....dont mean to be a kill joy but after the novelty wears off you hear one fire up at a run and it drowns out all the other boats, combined! you think...sheesh, I hope the people at this very nice, well kept lake/white shirt marina allow us back next year!!.....open ocean you say?....ok....but you still have to start (and end) from somewhere

fwiw - the guys who own those things typically own large corperation sized companies...a guy around here who was one of the first to have/build a turbine boat (search U Tube "My Way" turbine boat) owns a huge construction company that has govt contracts to build expressways around here.....he also owns a 60ft (ish) yacht called "Her Way" along with a bunch of Ferrari's and homes and stuff

I have a small HTM cat that only does 118mph on gps and it feels like it's going to rip your face off at that speed. I can't even imagine what one of these turbine boats with a open cockpit must feel like at full speed.
