Torque capacity varies. The only sure way to tell is the tag number.

If everything is out of a 92, V-8 Camaro, it should be good for about 300 ft/lbs of torque.

      http://www.5speeds.com/t5/index.html says that's a casting #, not the tag #

What combination of parts do you plan to use; bellhousing, clutch, linkage, etc? It will bolt up, but you have some decisions to make. Do you want to keep the tail shaft with the angled mount or put a Mustang or S-10 tail housing on it? Do you want to fab a new cross member or mod the one you have. You may also have to change the bearing retainer depending on the TB bearing. Don't forget the driveshaft.

Search the internet and see what other people are doing.

One suggestion if you're installing a T-5, don't drag race with good sticky tires. They tend to come apart with very few launches on them. I've seen way too many of them go to pieces with very little abuse. A friend of mine with a 92 Z (back when it was new) went through 3 of them before the 36,000 mi warranty was up.

When I swapped my TH350 over to a T5 in my Cutlass, I used the TH350 crossmember but I had to extend the trans mount about 1" - 1.5".

The flywheel for a 92 will be for a 1pc rear main seal. If that's what your eng is your good to go. If you have a 2pc rms engine, then you'll need a differant flywheel.

Clutch & pressure plate will be a 26 spline 1 1/8" shaft. Clutch diameter is 10.5".

The bellhousing will have the 17* tilt for the tranny. This shouldn't matter if you are also converting to hydraulic throwout. If you are going with mechanical linkage in the future, you'll need a differant bell due to linkage not lining up. The stock GM bell won't fit over a 10.5" clutch setup.

How to make a T5 live? No 3000 rpm clutch drops, & no slicks or drag radials.

My T5 didn't like my 383 and I was easy on it. Remember, GM never put the T5 behind a 350 for good reason...

I can't really make that decision. If it's going behind the solid roller 355 in your sig then it'll last about 10 minutes.

Personally, for any type of performance usage, I'd pass on this deal unless you also plan on putting in some upgraded internals in the T5. If it's for a mild 305 or 350. then it may be a good deal.

Like I said, my 383 was 400-450 ft.lbs and I was easy on it. It needed rebuilt and for what I was going to spend for upgraded internals, I bought a differant, stronger trans.

As to whether it's worth it, that's your choice.

Going fast isn't cheap. If it were, everyone would be fast. It sounds like you have more motor than a T-5 will handle. If so, The T-5 will cost you more in the long run. But it is still your decision. Drive it like you are going to church and it will last. Start inpressing your friends and it won't last long.

If you are looking for a T-56, and LS1 or LS2 trans can be easier and cheaper to install. Keisler's TR45 might be an affordable alternative too.

It's no fun with a marginal tranny. I know, that's what I was up against with my T5. I'd rather see you save a little longer for a better tranny than buy something sub-par and waste it quicker than it took you to save for it.
