      mechanical press guage hook up

I am wanting to add some guages to the town car. I already have an Autometer ultra lite oil press guage. I am leary of using the nylon tubing. I have heard of some problems with leaking, Etc. I don't want any problems. Should I use braided steel lines or?????

      What do you guys suggest.

      At least....

      Tim,

I would at least switch to a copper line. I had a nylon line harden & crack on my car. The copper line is the same size as the nylon and uses the same compression style fittings.

I found a line kit at the local Advance when I needed to replace the nylon. It included the line & new fittings.

You can run #3 or #4 braided with no trouble. Back of the gauge should be 1/8 NPT, just get the right adapters and you're set.

I've had a nylon line fail. I've also had a copper line fail on my '65 Corvette (during engine break in, no less), it made a HUGE mess. The copper can be kinked and broken if you're not careful, and over time the constant flexing from engine vibration takes its toll.

A -3 line is really easy. For the money Aeroquip teflon hose and fittings are the way to go. They are much easier to fit than the standard rubber types. -4 IMO is bigger than necessary for an oil gauge.
