      E-brake adjustment

Needing some help here. I took my 2006 Impala SS for the inspection stikcer and it failed due to my E-brake not holding the car. I was told that it needed to be adjusted (tightened). I was told the brake shoes are inside the rotor like the LS1 rear brakes. How difficult is it to tighten the cable? Do I need to remove the calipers to do this, or is it similar to the old drum brakes screw?

      Thanks
      Tony C.

Hey Tony, well that sucks. You should be able to get to it with a brake spoon or a bent screw driver. look for the star wheel and turn it with the wheels in the air safely supporting the car with jack stands.

I like to engauge the parking brake 1/4 of the travel then adjust till you get some resistance.

Mr. Quick thanks for the advice. I had looked at it on Monday and took the caliper and rotor off and tried to adjust it, but the star wheel only turned about half way and stopped. This did nothing for the adjustment. I ended up having to take it to a shop to have them adjust it. Now it holds the car, but when I drive off, there is a loud popping sound afer the car has been sitting for awhile. It happens only one time and then nothing. I think they may have tightened it too much. I will take it back to them tomorrow to fix whatever they did.
