Ok, how did YOU do it....

I removed the engine in my car and decided to pull the T56 with it. I fixed the oil leak and re-installed it this past weekend. I fiddled around with the slave cylinder (GM pusher type) trying to get the plunger pushed in far enough in to let the body go over the two studs that are in the housing(once the rod was set in the clutch fork). I didn't see any way to relieve the pressure (i.e. bleed screw) and I didn't have that fancy "girdle" that came with it when it was new. I ended up using a clamp to push in the plunger, I taped the rod in place, then managed to get it in place just enough to get the nuts on the studs. Probaby took me an hour. There's got to be an easier way...I just wasn't seeing it. How did you do it? I'm fully prepared to be humiliated.
