      Convertibles and courses.....

OK guys, here's a question for some of the more experienced of the group, like Bill Howell, Mary or the like...

Tomorrow my project gets the front end aligned finally. Brakes and clutch are done, and I did the first step in breaking in the Moser/Truetrack rear end yesterday afternoon.

If I get an opportunity to visit a road course, what are my options considering this is a non-caged convertible? I know for straight line stuff I've got an issue because there's no way the car is as slow as or slower than 13.49, so NHRA and IHRA have big frowns. What about on a road course? It never really occured to me before because the only vert I've had previously that I ran was an M-Roadster, which did have hoops and rollover protection. Am I just out of luck?

      Thanks for the info (hopefully)

Depends on the track day organizers and if they'll allow an unprotected (non-rollbarred ...) car to run. It may be a safety issue and also something their insurance controls, not the event organizers.

If you can, see if you can get a four-point hoop bar with cross bracing inside that will offer some rollover protection and fit under the soft top.

If you can run the car as-is, don't run 100% ...

And congrats on finishing your build. Sounds great and post up some pics when you can.

      Cheers,

I have to agree with the <100% rule.

I've seen rollovers happen when, well, they shouldn't have:(

That's my problem too. I am building a car that is a convertible and dont like the roll bar look. I would like to find something that looks good in the first gen camaro but cant. Anybody know of a good looking set up for the verts with the top down?

Did you see the bar they put in the Trans Am tribute car on "Muscle Car"
      Wasn't to bad.

NASA and most other open track events will require a roll bar in a vert, probably at least a 4 point.
