      68 Chevelle Tire Fitment

      Hey Guys,
Quick Question. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a 68 Chevelle that I am currently building a pro touring car out of. I will post pictures in the other area shortly.

I have all CPP suspension, QA1 Shocks and coilovers, Baer Brakes with a 2" drop spindle all around. I already have a nice set of 18" forgeline wheels for it, but I am concerned about what tires are going to fit as well as look nice. I dont want to thin of a tire because I want a somewhat comfortable ride. I have not mini tubbed the car either.

What sizes have some of you guys run that you were comfortable with?

      Thanks,

      Dan

I have 18x9 with 255/35R18 up front and 18x11 with 305/35R18 out back on my 68 GTO.

The rear is a good diameter for the A-body at 26.4 inches. You might not be able to fit that tire in a 68 chevelle without modifying the wheel-well a bit. (All '68s are a little different from the later years). If you can get away with a 275/35R18 up front it will be a bit larger in diameter than the 255/35R18s (25.6 vs 25.0 inches)

      How wide are your rims?

      Here's mine:

      Front
      255/45/17 on 17 x 8.5 BS 4.5

      Rear
      285/40/17 on 17 x 10 BS 5.25 (BS from memory)

Mine is lowered 1" front and loaded with crap in the trunk so it is about 2" down in that picture.

My profile garage has more pictures of the Chevelle.

My fronts are 8.5 wide and the rears are 9.5 wide.

I have stock height spindles and 2" lowering springs in the rear, with coilovers in the front with stock spindles as well.

Look at a 245/40R18 for the front and a 275/35R18 for the rear. These are the OEM size for a BMW 545 and will give you very little tire bulge.

For a little more bulge and a slightly larger diameter you could go with a 255/40R18 and a 285/35R18. I would lean toward this combo. It will give you the same diameter that 406 Q-ship is running and the same width. I have seen his car in person and the tires look very good on his car.
