      200mph liscense runs

At Maxton NC today running for my 200 liscense. Borrowed a "Berkley" modified(understatement) open top land speed racer from Keith and Tonya Turk. Installed my 362ci 18* small block chevy with a carb and Jerico. Results was first pass 133mph, second pass 156mph, third pass 204 mph and fourth and last run 205 mph. Lost the steering shaft spline on the shutdown of the fourth run, that got my attention!!

WOW!!!! That's a little fast to be losing that kind of thing!!! Good job on the 200+, by the way. Sounds like a blast. I got bored last time I was around 120, and I'm sure 200 is insane.

      Kurt,

Losing that steering shaft spline had to be pretty scary!! Do you run at Maxton a lot? I'm planning on running my car down there when completed.

Cool. What does the 200 license qualify you for? What sanctioning body or bodies recognize it?

      Ralph,
It was my first time here, I will be back! They have a class called super street that allows 135mph with std safety stuff. There was a 05 mustang untouched running 139 lifting slightly to not get booted out. There is a 69 Camaro pro touring type car here with a big block stickshift that sounds wicked going down, I will get some pics in the morning.
The steering shaft incident was a 10 on the pucker factor!!

Bonneville too 250mph without upgrade, then a liscense pass over 250 will make me good too 300. If I get over 300 it will probably take awhile, but you gain 50mph each step.

I'd bet atleast a 10!! Definitely get some pics if you can. I believe Maxton is one of the closest top speed events for us East Coasters / Midwesteners, I can't wait to get my car out there when it's finished!

It was a 12 hour drive from Michigan towing. The track is pretty cool and the people are way cool to deal with.
My background was drag cars with a top speed of 166 before this.
Here you have to run 125mph <5000rpm3rd>(or close) your first run, then 150mph <6000rpm3rd>your second run, then 175mph<7000rpm3rd> your third run. At the start line for the 3rd run they told me I could do anything as long as I did not come out of 3rd gear so i held here wide open in 3rd to 204@ around the 8000rpm mark, from now on they will probably check for triple valvesprings before they say that!!
