      The 500 and 600 are identical. Only real difference is the way the front cluster bearing support fits.

      Jim,how much slip yoke should be showing between the end of the seal and the end of the slip yoke?i switched out to new carbon fiber driveshaft and slip yoke all from Mark Williams Enterprises and im alittle worried the shaft may be too long?

      Thanks

      Jim is the man over at Hurst Drive Line Conversions. I called him up after 3 years and he offered to try and help me warranty my box! Thanks again Jim! What did you do to the trans?

      You asked for an exploded view: ha ha

      Your driveshaft is OK as long as you are near minimum length during suspension articulation. That will be where the driveshaft angles are close to ZERO. If you car is lowered from stock, I bet it's ok.

      Explain your whine, that's my trans apart on the table. When, what gear, speed, etc.

      It could, but you have a good .75-1" by your photo. If that was taken with your suspension at full droop, you are in trouble. Look at my previous post, where is your yoke at when you driveshaft is STRAIGHT.

      The length looks fine to me. If your car is lowered then the driveshaft will actually move back as the suspension goes into compression. I would put the car up in the rear with the frame on jack stands and then use a jack to lower the rear end and observe what happens to the yoke. You can also put the jack stands under the axle and bounce the rear and observe the yoke movement.

      I did all of the above with my GTO and here is a picture that tells the story...

      The zip tie was tight against the slip yoke, then I moved the rear end around through about 6-8 inches of travel, about 3-4 inches in both compression and extension. Clearly the slip yoke moves very little as the rear end moves through its range of motion. You really only need the extra clearance for driveshaft installation and not to accommodate the suspension movement.

      Please, don't take my word for it. Do the same test and see what you find. I would like some confirmation to my findings.

      I am also curious to see what you think of the carbon driveshaft. I just installed one in my GTO but would love to hear your opinion.

      Are you experiencing any high speed vibrations?

      Andrew thanks for the info,maybe it was making that little whine and i never noticed it i dont know??for test you had to remove the tailhousing?the Carbon fiber shaft is awesome!!with the steel shaft i used to have a slight vibration coming in a 75 mph in OD,now i have none whatsoever its so smooth,the shaft is soooooo light compared to the steel (3.50")one,where did you get yours from?

      Yes, to do the test you need to have the tailshaft housing off. However, you may be able to get a good idea of what is happening just by making a mark with a marker and having someone bounce the back of the car or use a jack to drop the rear while you observe the slip yoke movement.

      You can also get an idea by doing some simple geometry calculations using the Pythagorean theorem: A squared + B squared = C squared, where A and B are the sides of a right triangle and C is the hypotenuse. The driveshaft needs to be its shortest when it is exactly lined up with the the output shaft of the transmission. So lets say that at its shortest it needs to be 54". Then let us assume that the rear end moves up and down +-4"

      So we have 54 squared + 4 squared = C squared
      C = square root (2916+16)
      C= 54.148"
      So 54.148 - 54 = .148" or a hair more than 1/8"

      Using the math certainly correlates highly with my little ziptie test.

      I got my driveshaft from The Driveshaft Shop in North Carolina. I too had a vibration problem over 75MPH. They built me a shaft that uses a CV joint in the front and I am very pleased with the results. I have pictures in my build thread.
