      Stainless Works Headers

I have a 69 camaro sbc. with stainless works 1 7/8 headers. Was told by a few companys that I would have no fittment issues with the DSE 600 steering box.Long and behold they dont fit. It hits the steering box.The heads are dart pro 1s with regular degree.Stainless works thinks that the DSE steering box is slightly bigger than the standard steering box.DSE told me it SHOULD be the same size. Has anyone else had the same issues or any input. Thanks

What frame mounts are you using (the ones the motor mounts bolt to)? There are a couple different types used for SBC's on these frames. That might be the issue.

I originally had the 327 frame mounts in there with the short and wide engine mounts and that didnt work.I now have the 350 frame mounts with the tall and narrow engine mounts and its closer but still does not fit.

I had the same issue putting an LS motor in with Stainless Works headers and 600 series box. 69 Z28 and hipo 350 towers lower the motor to clear the carb at the hood. Big Block towers move the motor to the passenger side (I believe approx 5/16") to help the exhaust clear the steering box good luck. Hope this helps.

All though my set up is different it may shed some light on your dilema. I swapped from AFR 195 comp heads with a stock GM 350 block on stock motor mounts to a standard deck Dart 406 block with AFR 235's. Both set ups used the same Hooker Super comp 1 7/8" headers. The AFR 235 heads seemed to raise the headers and kick them out a little. Major fettling took place but they are in....

I think your issue may be due to head exhaust port location as the motor mount, power steering box and block are all accounted for with regards to location and size....
