Join the OneLap Camaro pit crew!

Some of our very own are running the One Lap of America. It's going to be a great time and you can be a part of it.

In 30 Days the optima batteries OneLapCamaro Team heads off for the 2010 Tire Rack One Lap of America and they Need Your Help

On April 30th, 2010 David Pozzi and James Shipka will start the 2010 Tire Rack One Lap of America in South Bend, Indiana. Eight days later – after covering over 3,500 highway miles and competing in more the 18 events at 10 of the countries most challenging race tracks – they hope to cross the finish line. The optima Batteries OneLapCamaro is the oldest car entered in this years’ event and will be competing against a field which has been dominated by modern imports since 2003. David and James hope to show that a 43 year old Pro-Touring Camaro can run with the best that the world has to offer – but they need your help.

Racing 3,500 miles across the country is one thing - doing it alone is another…

The optima batteries OneLapCamaro Team is looking for volunteers who live, work, or play along the 2010 Tire Rack One Lap of America route who would be willing to lend a hand (or point us in the right direction) if they run in to trouble along the way. 3,500 miles is a long way to drive when you’re alone; the One Lap of America rules don’t allow for a chase vehicle so having a local lifeline – or a series of lifelines - could be the difference between completing the race and a DNF. The Team is asking for your help if you’re going to be anywhere near this year’s event.

See the 2010 Tire Rack One Lap of America Schedule Here - http://www.onelapofamerica.com/histo...e.shtml?y=2010

If you think that you would be able to help them out if they run in to trouble on the road – or at the track - please click the link below and send them your name, location, and contact information (phone number and email address would be great).

      I Can Help – email to:[email protected]

If you have access to a garage, a lift or other helpful tools, please let them know! At some point during the race it would be nice to get the optima batteries OneLapCamaro on a lift to give it a once over before flogging it at the next stop...

They won't contact you unless they run in to trouble or need to do some maintenance along the way, but by simply taking the time to volunteer your name will be added to the OPTIMA Batteries OneLapCamaro Team on the website and if they do call you, they'll hook you up with a T-shirt and hopefully you’ll have a cool story to tell!

      Other ways to help

You can also support the Team by buying a 2010 OneLapCamaro T-shirt – they’re available now and will be around while supplies last. Visit the website at http://www.onelapcamaro.com/shirt2010.html to order one today.

If you want to be a part of the OPTIMA Batteries OneLapCamaro Team you can also help take some of the pressure off James and David by buying the guys a hot meal, a warm bed, or a tank of gas as they push the car - and themselves - to the limit during the race.

Best of all, any donations over and above what the Team can use during the 2010 Tire Rack One Lap of America will be donated to charity at the end of the race. Both individual and corporate support is welcome and you can get more information on the website here: http://www.onelapcamaro.com/support2010.html

Finally, the guys could use some technical and logistical help…

“One of the Team’s goals is to make our 2010 Tire Rack One Lap of America journey a shared experience – through updates on the web - with real time GPS Tracking, blog style updates, photos and videos. We can use any help available to keep our updates timely and entertaining for everybody. It’s going to be challenging to keep everything updated while driving 500 miles across country to get to the next event and would appreciate any assistance anyone can provide – from spreading the word to posting material for us.

If you think that you can make it to one of the tracks while were there - please let us know, we can always use the company and if you've got some skills with a camera or a computer maybe you can contribute to our live updates while we concentrate on getting the job done.

Thanks we appreciate your help and support and will represent Pro-Touring.com throughout the race as best we can!

      James, Mary, and David”

I would really like to help. Do they know what roads and routes they are taking during the race? I have a lift in my garage and a full on fab shop pretty much.

Larry - thanks for posting this and thanks for sending out the email to all of the Pro-Touring.com members last week - we really appreciate it!

I want to say the David, Mary, and I are really amazed - and humbled - at the response from the Pro-Touring community over the last few days. We were hoping that by getting the word out that we could find a few people along the route to turn to if - and probably when - we need some help, advice, or support on the road but none of us were prepared for the responses that we've received. We now have a list of over 50 people who have responded to us with contact information and offers of shop space, tools, places to rest, and - most importantly - support. To say that we are overwhelmed and sincerely touched would be an understatement.

Likewise we are truly appreciative of the people who have offered to help us with some of our expenses during the race. It's amazing that we can create such a close community over the net in forums like this and that we help each other the way that we do. Thank you.

If you have emailed us over the last few days - we're working on getting back to each and every one of you personally but between RTTC and the overwhelming number of emails we're a bit behind. I apologize and promise that we will be in touch soon.

This is an undertaking unlike any that we have ever attempted and it really does mean a lot to us that so many people want to be involved in our efforts. We are going to do everything that we can to make our race your race (if you know what I mean) and hopefully we can represent the Pro-Touring community well!

I too am geographically challenged. But, if you need a bearing, we have a plant in Clarinda, IA (1.5hrs SE of Pacific Junction) and a warehouse in Indy. There's also a service tech about 1 hour from South Bend.

Best of luck to you guys. I will be following your updates very closely. How exciting!!!

This is also a great opportunity to show the world what a great, close knit community we are. I have no doubt that there will be dozens of people that will step up to the plate and be ready to offer a hand at a moments notice.

      Why I cant Donate

In good concience I cannot donate and here is why>

A couple of years ago the optima people told their American employees that their jobs were stable and not to worry. You will continue to feed your familys and pay your mortgages.

This as many of you know never happened......they flat out lied! Imagine that?

Now all those jobs are in Mexico ..and gone are the Americans jobs and whatever lifestyle they had.

Put yourself in their place for a moment. Even though is did not affect me directly my heart went out to those people along with all the other jobs that have been lost to other foreign countries.

Their will be some that say ....." you type on a Chineese keyboard"

What shall we do to stop this kind of thing you may ask? I don't know if HP lied or not........but optima sure did..

Probably right now, not a whole lot but the point is >Optima.......flat out lied to those folks and told them their jobs were safe. Therein lies the problem. Maybe some of the employees made a large purchase or bought a home etc. Then the rug was jerked out from under their feet so to speak.......now thats what I have a problem with.

I am suprised at this forum along with some other forums support of Optima. Maybe you get a free battery and or they support some of your events......They are marketing experts.....the little they do for your hobby is really nothing compared to the sales they get from this sorta thing.

All I see is some selfishness on some folks part. If you really think about it we just keep selling our souls to the devil.

When is someboy really going to analize these kind of things and stand up for what is right?.or are we going to keep selling our souls off until we don't have a country?

Optima lied and now other Americans who may be ignorant of these things will keep buying the Mexican battery.

This is not a political statement but a mere fact of what actually happened in Colorado a couple of years ago.

Somebody has to say something and I guess it will be me.

So go ahead and start your bashing if you want to but you can never change that fact! They are liars and stepped on your fellow Americans.

Yea keep sending all the jobs to Mexico and other places and no Amercans will have jobs to buy those things.......why because we wont have a job maybe? Ya think?

Supporting Optima to me is living a lie.........

You aren't supporting optima; you'd be supporting James Shipka, and David Pozzi in a car they built without cash from sponsors. They worked hard to make a vehicle worthy of competition and they could use the support to make it through the race.

Keep the politics out of this please.

      Tyler
Everything I post is my personal opinion. When I post under this name I am not a sponsor or business owner any longer, but just a regular car guy like yourself.

+1 about the politics.....wow, I never thought that I would see a post like that one.

James and David have worked hard to sort out that car, I agree with Tyler...they deserve our support in whatever capacity.

Already sent a email with my info. You'll be driving within a couple miles of my place on your way back to South Bend from Nelson Ledges on Friday May 7th. I should be able to get access to a lift at a buddy's shop (also a pro-touring.com member) a mile down the road. Also my shop is available if you need to do any work on the car. Could point you to a couple good places to eat along with getting you a tank of gas on your way through.

Would be fun to be part of the team

Thanks Tyler - you know what it took to get the car to this point and we really do appreciate everyone's support. Likewise John - thank you very much!

Got your info Buddy - thanks. I have a feeling that by Friday night we'll really appreciate an opportunity to talk to someone besides each other so don't be surprised if your phone rings!
