460 identification

I have this 460 (I was told it's out of a early 70s Lincolin).. How do identify what is what with it? I also would like some suggestions on what I should do with it while i have it out of my truck (cam/intake/carb...ect). I'm not really looking to spend a whole lot..

There should be some casting numbers on the block above the starter IIRC. There is also some numbers on the head. This will tell you what year it is. Should be like a C9VE or a DOVE or D3VE etc. All 460 blocks are very stout and most are capable to 0.080 overbore. With the right stroke/bore you can take a stock block to 572 cubic inches.

Depending on year the best bang for the buck is to put an earlier style timing chain (or a Ford Motorsport 3 way adjustable timing set). The later years (post 72) retarded the timing 4 degrees and made them a dog. In all the trucks I had that was the first thing to change. Then bump the initial timing to about 15 degrees and it will be like a whole new motor. Headers and intake would be next. There is some really sharp guys on those two sites that can get you a custom cam for the same prices as an off the shelf unit and that is the way to go.
