That said, cost not being an issue, I'd still go with a T56.
I rode in a monte carlo two nights ago that had a manual valve body and I didn't like it at all! In every gear he would le toff the throttle and the rpm's would go to like 600-800...then he would hit the gas again and the car would "catch" at the appropriate rpm...so the car would get power to the wheels at weird times. All I was picturing was me doing that in a corner and totaly losing traction.

I still plan on the T56...just doing this automatic so I can get back on the track asap!!

That's bizarre. I've cruised around in my friend's Roadrunner with a manual valve body and it behaves nothing like that.

Hate to ask, but is your friend sure that he doesn't have other transmission issues?

Well I ordered some more parts for my trans today! This time I ordered some hard parts for the inside of it.

I got the "E4340 STEEL BILLET SHAFT FORWARD DRUM" from CK Performance.

      http://www.ckperformance.com/resourc...OMPONENTS.html

This along with other awesome parts I'm getting in this trans should make it last!! My last two tran's didn't have any good parts in them, except for the billet servo's.

I just hope I am ready for June 2...

I think it has something to do with the gear engagement being somewhat "passive" via a sprag (aka overrunning clutch) vs by active mechanical means such as clutches/bands. Link.

Doug's experience would have been with the overrunning clutch allowing the engine rpm to drop below what the D/S rpms would require (everything aft of the overrunning clutch is allowed to "freewheel" or overspeed what the engine rpm input and the nominal tranny ratios would otherwise dictate). When the engine rpms come up to match whatever the road speed and tranny gear engaged require, only then is torque from the engine applied.

You wouldn't have any engine compression braking to speak of.

As I recall, the Torqueflites worked a little differently than the GM Turbohydros. I think there was an overrunning clutch for low (1st) that could act to give you 1st in the event of low-reverse band breakage, but I think that most shifts were accomplished by band and clutch activation/deactivation. Weren't the TF manual valve bodies all reverse-pattern?

Mustang is all done and back on the road!!! Insurance took care of everything so we are all set to go. The floor was reshaped and welded back together, new rack was installed, paint touched up, and new front heat exchanger brackets were put in. Car is great and Kim is happy! Thank you for asking!
