Speedo DRIVE GEAR ON TOPLOADER PLEASE HELP!

      OK,

Probably a bit dramatic but I am so sick of misinformation from sites and tech people that think they know what they are talking about judged on books and not hands on knowledge so here it goes...

I need a new Speedo Drive Gear since mine is apple cored out... So I called Mustangs Unlimited and they sent me two gears.. One for the tail shaft for the tranny (4 speed toploader) and one for the speedo cable.. Problem is the teeth run bottom left to upperright on the speedo drive gear and they run bottom right to upper left on the cable gear! IS THIS RIGHT? The tech at Mustang Unlimited say it absolutely is correct according to his book but I cant see how mechanically it would work? I have included a picture for a reference PLEASE CAN SOMEONE WHO HAS HANDS ON EXPERIENCE WITH THIS ANSWER ME AND LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS RIGHT.. I dont want to rip the tranny tailhousing off and put it all back together again only to find out that this "tech" is WRONG.. Thanks In advance!!

Looks right to me. Lay the white gear on top of the black one just as it sits & the teeth will mesh together. Doesn't matter which direction the white gear is pointed, they will lay the same direction regardless of which way it is pointed. The white gear centerline will be perpendicular to that of the black gear.
