These cars super mileage sensitive to say the least. I love these cars until they get a lot of everyday miles on them. Same with Corvettes. Parts start falling off as the accumulate miles. Planed obsolesce in it's purest form.

It looks like you have enough of a budget to find a good one. I would look for a 98 or up and get the LS1.

Advice, buy the lowest mileage, garage kept, never wrecked, maintenance records car you can find.

Try LS1tech.com and ls2.com in the classified sections..

You can also try Cz28.com since they have more LT1's..

I have seen higher milage LS1's that cheap but they are a little "rough"..

If you are lucky you will find one where the owner put on sub frame connectors when it was new.. does a TON to help slow the spread of the dreaded squeeks and rattles..

If you look around you would be suprised how many 98-99 Camaros for under 9k. We just picked up a 2000 Z-28 commuter car for my fiance, paid $10k with 70k highway miles, very clean, also LS motors aren't too bad with high miles. Just screen the seller real well.

camaroz28.com is another good site. Look in the LT1 and LS1 forums for information on issues people have had.

Fuel pumps only go bad if you run out of gas and try to start the car.. they are lubricated/cooled by the gas and they die fast if there is no gas..

ie.. don't run out of gas
