      t-56

Hey guys, I know this has been talked about to death but I have a chance to by an t-56 that was in a camaro with an lt1 engine. My question is which swap kit and which company would be the most economically priced and how difficult is this swap. I 67 camaro with a 383 with the 2 piece rear main seal and a th350 trans. I have read a ton of posts and Im still not sure what to do. Thanks in advance.

I can only tell you what I did and why. I have a 67 with a big block. I found an LT1 T56 for $100. Normally I wouldn't run the LT1 but for $100 ya can't go wrong.

I used Weir's just because I wanted something easy. His stuff is pricey, but when you work it all out its all pricey in the end. The bellhousing allows you to use a regular clutch and pressure plate. No worries about puller clutch or any junk like that. I had a good clutch, just needed to change out to the 26 spline disc.

His stuff allows you to use your stock pedal and location with a hyd master cyl. There is a bracket that bolts to where your z bar bracket goes. The hyd master goes on the bracket and it cones with a push rod that hooks to your stock pedal. Some have said it looks "hot rodded" but it was fine with me. Comes with steel braid to attach to the supplied throw out bearing.

Cross member was a little hokey, but all in all looked pretty good and cleared. If you have saggy body mounts you may want to consider aluminum or at the very least new ones. Its close.

All bolted right up in about 15 minutes. (Subframe is out of the car). If you have any questions let em know. I'm sure the other stuff out there is as good if not better, but this was a nice package that all came in one shot. I still need to get a speedo converter and wire up the reverse lock out.

When it is all said and done, this is not ecomonical by any means. But having overdrive makes you a god among musclecars. You can machine up a throw out and make stuff work, but I'm short for time and this way was pretty quick and painless (except the paying for it part). On top of the transmission expect to pay about a grand in parts. Probably closer to $1200 with the speedo converter, those aren't cheap, then another $300 for the drive shaft. But, like I said its worth every penny. I got my tranny for $100, then put some money in it to build it up but still was way under a Classic or Kiesler kit. If you pay what the T56 normally goes for, you are going to be close to their kits in my opinion.
