spindle choices

Having now done a lot of reading on chassis and suspension tuning and design I want to start to mock up ideas on paper and the computer for front suspension.

My control arms will be custom and so too will their mounting points with the usual coil-over set up.

My question is what are my choices for spindles? I will be running 18" wheels so want to take advantage of the extra space and use taller spindles. the car will be used on the street and the occasional track day. The cra is a 66'stang but the whole front end is custom so I can do what I like. The only thing I need to do is keep the ford 5 stud pattern to keep with the back.

The L&H Kustom ones advertised on this site would seem like an option at first glance.

If it were me, I'd seriously look at the C6 uprights. Tall, great geometry, strong, lightweight, good quality hubs available (can be re-drilled for 4.5" pattern), and endless brake packages at your disposal. Cheap too.

I think I just 'cum' over the JME set up - wow.

I will be investigating the possibility of using a bell cranked rear set up with the coilovers laid horizontally in the boot on a 03/04 cobra IRS.
The idea of using a similar set up on the front is a bit tempting - hmmm.

The C5/C6 upright is also a nice option since they are easily replaced. Matt at Anvil has the JME setup on his 69 Mustang and it is stupid silly awesomesauce. If they ever decide to go into the 1st gen Camaro market....All I can say is they just shouldn't. Unfair.

That JME setup looks heavy to me.

The corner carver spindle looks good. It could be a good starting point for the OP.

Agent 47 is a good SLA design but the converted strut spindle is not an optimized design.

Looking at JME make me think flashy suspension. I know it performs. But upgrades could be done. Like running a woodward rack rather than an OEM mustang. Without knowing the numbers, it looks like that UCA is really short.

I like their ingenuity. But at that price who could run it and what class can they compete in?

I have been looking at agent 45 and coleman, lots of nice stuff out there when you go looking.

Got to check out the corvette spindles next as this might be a way forward that does not bankrupt me.

I am seriously thinking about copying the coilover positioning of the JME setup by using a bell crank - it would reduce unsprung weight, leave lots of room for headers and all the pipework for the twin turbos and look pretty awesome.

The wide5 stubs are huge compared to a typical stub. Unless Coleman sells a differnt bolt on stub, you're not going to make it happen.

The blinged up stuff is cool but if I was starting from scratch (and I wouldn't) I'd build it off of either a C5 or Impala upright. The Impala is standard issue circle track stuff. Tall, stiff, well supported for brakes and cheep.

The trouble with going wide 5 is that you have a limited choice of wheels - mainly 15 and 16" and I wanted to go 18".

I dont know if you could use a wide 5 spindle and some kind of hub adapter - I have not seen one
