      Pro-Touring book gets an F-

      Hey everyone,

I was looking at my books on Amazon.com today and was surprised to see that I only had one review of my first book titled, “How to Build GM Pro-Touring Street Machines” and the reviewer gave the book a 2 out of 5 rating. If that was a grade in school, it would be a 40% out of 100%. That’s an F-.

      http://www.amazon.com/Build-Pro-Touring-Street-Machines-Design/product-reviews/1884089763/ref=sr_1_3_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
I know it didn’t turn out to be as helpful as I had hoped, but an F-? I had to fit within the pages they allowed. During the first edit the publisher had me delete 60,000 words and 200 photos. Did I really do that bad of a job with the book? You can be truthful. I’m a big boy.

      Tony,
I have both the GM and Ford books (#33) and I thought they were well done. I think they are great for someone getting into the hobby and to help define the direction of their project. I think the title could be some what misleading to some but there is no way there could be one "how to" book to cover everything one is going to encounter during their build. Especially considering the restrictions you had on you. Hell, I ended up with 6 books just on suspensions alone. I got them through you, never thought about a Amazon review but I'll get that taken care of soon.

I think the book is great as an intro into pro-touring builds. Is it going to be a bible? no. Also, you have to look at how long ago you made that book and look at what the current trends are today. I am sure if you did it again today, it would probably be a lot different. I have enjoyed all your books and should be proud of what you have published.

I do not think you did a bad job, I think its a tough topic to cover within a predefined page count. There is no 1 pro-touring build to cover all 60/70 gm cars, and not to mention the evolution of parts technology etc... Other than covering the areas to look at updating for a pt build specific tech info is best found in magazine tech articles & friends, etc...

The reviewer must of thought they were buying a dummies guide to pro touring GM's.

I have the book and it was a good introduction a few years ago when I bought it but I think it is a little dated now. Quite a lot has changed in terms of what is available.

I thought the book was good Tony. I wished that I had bought and read it before buying a single part, rather than midway through the process. I think it's not just what the book tells you in black and white, but what the book gets you thinking about for your own build.

x2 I have my signed copy and well used.
I would aggree that a lot of the info is dated and for a begginer. But overall a lot of good info and refrence.
Was is bad, no. Like you said you were limited and had to run with what you were given. Now if you can do another one the evolution of pro-touring with Motiv8r, bad penny, jackass,.......................................... ............................. well you get the point.

I loved that book. It's what sparked my interest in pro-touring and taught me everything i needed to know before starting my project. It may be a little dated now but I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Tony, anyone that rates it a 2 out of 5 either had the wrong expectations or they just don' like ya.

Like was said above, it's a great introduction, well laid out and informational. Not intended to be a bible in this ever growing field, but a book you buy and Keep.

      I say 'job well done'!

Ratings like that are never reality.

When I worked in radio I found that the less people called the more they liked it. If you had tons of reviews and no one liked it you would have something to worry about. People complain more than they compliment these days.

Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin was almost never played because of the review a program directors wife gave it. You know the rest of the story.

It's a good book, not to worry !!!!

You now have another 5 star review.

If only you had put the Pearl Cyclone on the cover of that book instead of your car, you and Oprah would be best friends.

I wouldn't worry about it Tony. Opinions are like......well, ya know.
