      Hood hinges

Have a 72 Chevelle. Guy before me put a new cowl hood on it, not cowl induction, just one step cowl. Has new hinges and springs as well but not certain if they are OEM or repo.

Problem is with the engine running the hood won't stay up, slams shut. I have tried camaro springs, no good. Was considering buying new OEM springs from Year one in the event these are repo springs and cheap steel or poor quality. Found a complete set of repo hinges and springs from Tamraz that are reasonable.

Is there a certain hinge / spring combo I need to look at that would have a bit more strength and less side to side movement short of buckling the hood with too much strength??? I am not into the billet 700 dollar hinges. The engine is the jewel, hinges for me just serve a purpose as long as they are clean and painted well. Thanks!

Sounds like he might have used springs for a glass hood, way weaker than normal springs to keep from warping the fiberglass. Look for a set of heavy duty springs for a steel hood, if the hinges are correct it should fix the problem.
