      Pro Touring Bandit

I have been a long time reader on this site, but never really been one for posting much. I thought you would like to see some progress on my Pro Touring 77 Bandit Trans Am. Before any Trans Am fans start to panic, this car is a clone. There is not going to be much of the original car left anyway. Here is a picture of the 511 IAII based Pontiac motor just sat in the Wayne Due subframe. The car will have a TKO600 from Keisler and you can see the Baer brakes. The body is at the paint shop right now, and I hope to have it back in a week or so. For now I can ammuse myself assembling the subframe and drivetrain.

Looks very good so far. What engine are you using? Who's control arms? I also like the car in the back gound. R.P.

Here it is with the TKO600 installed. The engine is a 511 Pontiac IAII block with Edelbrock heads. Front suspension is 84 Corvette on a Wayne Due subframe.
The chassis on the floor behind is an SRIII tube frame for my 64 Corvette (next project) and the red T/A is my driver.

What kind of headers are those? What kind of horsepower are you looking to make with 511 set up?

Headers are a modern remake of the HO racing Tri Y set up from the 80s.

Motor should make 525 horsepower with enormous torque!

Looks great!! You should send a email to Hot Rod. I remember reading not too long ago that "..they are waiting to see if someone builds a "bandit" pro-touring car...." Looks like that someone is you.

      70ptta,
I have to say that I have some issues with the frame. Waynes work is very nice, but I don't think he had done a 2nd Gen Firebird before as he made some substantial mistakes. I hate cutting into such a clean piece, but I have to to make it work. Plus Wayne is over 3000 miles away, so it is not like I can easily send it back! Frame cost me over $3,000. It uses 84 (C4) suspension.

Wayne Due Frame for 2nd gen

I have the frame for the 78 T/A too, I am mocking it up now, and am having to make some adjustments to mine as well. So Far, the motor has been too far forward, but not that big of a deal. On mine, the core support doesn't fit. I either have to notch the frame on the front a ton, or cut into the core support/make a new one from tubing. Trev, I would really like to talk to you to find out what problems you are having, and how you fixed them. That would really help me out bunches.

TREV great to see a poncho bandit pro touring in the making . did you made a typing error , as 525 hp for that set up is way below its potential!!!!! unless you chooce to . do you have any engine specs . the Indian adventure II block together with the MR1 block can handel 6 times that amound of hp . i gues your comp at 9.6 with a mild XE cam ..

DAVID, I was thinking the same thing !

With a set of stock cast iron heads it should make around 520 hp .

With a set of mild ported Elde's or KRE's it would make aroung 650 hp.

BeeBe i thingk its a 4.25 stroke p dude crate engine made to LAST. insted of going for its full potentional . its build for years of maytiens free running .a whize chooice!!!, as 525 horse with GOBS of Injun torque is plenty on the streets . i myself have a MR1 engine layout for the 69 GTO . witch will be on the wilder side .
