Need help with right side lights 69 Firebird

Having trouble getting power to right side tailights and headlights, checked fuses,all look ok, left tailight works fine,it appears that right tailight harness is tied in the same spot as the left and yet the lights have no power, do these cars have some tricky ground? My test light will not light up when grounded to the body while hitting the positive wire on socket that has power. This makes no sense.

I have very little experience with these things...just my .02

You should not have a positive voltage at the light unless it is on, and then you should have positive on both sides of the light.
I think you need to look closer to the switch and the fuse block. Isn't there multiple grounds there that need to be attached?

I believe that one of the rear circuits (either the brake or tail) grounds through the socket itself, via metal prongs. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Have you visually inspected the wires which lead from the left tail to the right tail?

so far what I see,is there is a cable going from left side under the seat and into the trunk ,then two sets of wires spliced into it for left and right tailights,it makes no sense because they get the power from same wire, I can't seem to find ground,I'm taking that negative wire in the socket is not grounded,and yet the left tailight works

If your grounds are good then most likely your issue on a stock harness is bad splices where they pull off the main wire for the left side, think of the harness like an L, now you simply trim out a 1 in section of insulation in that main line, and maybe like 3 or 4 wires all crimped in then soldered (well most are some had been made during strikes and dont get soldered at splice).
Just gotta find that splice and repair or resolder it and inspect the wires from point A to Point B(splice).

I would use an ohm meter and test the circuit from various points along its length, ie from the splice, from the bulb terminal, etc to ground. This will isolate exactly where in the harness your bad connection is.

I found the problem why the headlights didn't work, the switch is bad, but I still need to trace wires to the tailights

got it, cleaned the connectors and sockets, everything works now,even turn signals,lol. should hold me over till new wiring harness
