      ethanol based gas

      Greetings!

D'ont know if I missed a discussion on this, but in my area they are introducing E based gas (E90), which is supposed to be 90 octane. I have no problems at all with the current 90 octane unleaded fuel (E heads) in a 10.5 cr 462 ci motor.

I run a "normal" set up: BG 950 cfm carb, original 30+ year old gas tank (1970 Firebird), MSD ignition, hard fuel line into a braided line and Holley electric fuel pump!!

Am I likely to face any issues? Are there any recommendations to improve milage/efficiency/reliability?

      Thanks in advance.

      Rich,
      What area you in?...mid west?

I'm a pontiac guy too (71' T/A) and I can tell you here on the East coast we have 10% Ethy in our gas.

We did some extensive dyno pulls on my friend Lenny Caverly's 455 he built for EMC this past year.

We used pump gas from here and 5 gallons of the fuel EMC was using in the comp...no ethy in it.

We made 796 HP on 91 octane with no ethy.

As for the gas your talking about is it a spin on E-85?

If so your fuel system will need to be prepped for the ethy as it's corrosive and can damage rubber lines and parts.

I've joined a few E-85 forums to stay in step with this type of fuel and for proper carb & fuel system prep.

Thanks for the reply Jeff. I am living overseas and the way things are being set up all you can get now is the E gas. How has it performed based on your observations? Can you give a link to the sites you mentioned?

      Thanks,

      Rich

      Rich,
Do you mind me asking where overseas?

We don't have the same exact gas as what they're using overseas so I would ask you to give us some reports if you don't mind.

I don't know your cam specs but I think you many have to retune your combo a bit to avoid detionation.

Here's some links as you asked to some E-85 forums.

am in Jamaica. Have no specific data but there is a lot of negative press about needing engine rebuild since using the E87 and E90 that we get out here........and those are all "stock" engines.
