      Rookies....

We usually get 3-4 of those a year in MA. Though since I rebuilt my snowblower, we haven't had a single flake...yet.

We got some snow here. Tractor with plow couldn't handle it (not a garden tractor either - tried both the Ferguson and the International. Both with chains). Had to use the Bobcat with metal tracks. Even it was marginal. There is ice under the snow so on the grades, the tracks spin. We were without power for the past 24 hrs and the dozer needs pre-heat to start. The backhoe would be useless. It'd just be a top-heavy sled. A big problem is that the snow is really heavy rather than powder, so the 24+ inches we got is tough to work with. The only good news is it doesn't drift as much as normal, but it's tougher than normal. The snow is so heavy here that it literally twisted the aluminum mud flap on the front passenger wheel on my Dodge Ram. Had to remove it, but will still need to repair the fender lip where the snow actually bent the assembly.

We're more than used to heavy snow here but the combination of ice before the snow, combined with the density/heavy snow in such a large amount so fast has created real problems. Since we had no power, and I finally got the driveway cleared enough with the bobcat (took all day yesterday) we all got in the Dodge last night to find food. Absolutely nothing was open. Power down everywhere. Trees down, roads closed. Found an open Sheetz that normally makes sandwiches that was open. They had run out of food hours before. It's gonna take a lot of work to clean this up.

Here are a couple more shots from this morning. According to the local news, Dulles airport, which is about a 15 minute drive from my place, officially got 32"!!!!!

      It is.

I've never had a snow blower before so I did a little Google research on what was available. Online it was hard to tell from the little thumbnails how big the different blowers were so I bought it based on specs. When the delivery truck showed up with it, my wife said "What the hell did you buy a such a monster snow blower for?"
      Now she knows.

In case you're wondering, it's an Ariens Deluxe Two-stage 27 In. Electric Start Snow Blower, Model # 921012. Another feature that sold me is it's made in the USA (Wisconsin).

Wow the amount of snow going on down in VA etc is crazy. I live in CT and this past weekend we had...0.0" of snow

My grandmother in the other hand, who lives in Aldie, VA could not get out...hours and hours of complaining on the phone. Told her to move, she said no.

I'm originally from New Jersey and out here in Colorado with the military. Believe it or not they get way more snow out there then in the springs area. Way up in the mountains its different, but down here it's surprisingly decent. We got about 2" last night, and it usually melts in a day, the sun is so intense here.

We're moving back to the east and I'm dreading snow lol. Colorado is nothing. I was laughing at my father in law in south Jersey with his 2' of snow yesterday.
