New from Tacoma with '68 Charger

      Hello everyone,
I just want to say "Hi" and introduce myself. I'm Doug for the Tacoma Wa area now and have been loving this site. I'm amazed at the knowledge and helpfulness of everyone here. It's just too cool.

I have a '68 Charger and it is a long way off from being completed. I have lots of dreams and am getting tons of ideas from all of you, but I am lacking in many areas. 1) Baby on the way and that will add to the juggling. 2) Currnetly not residing in the US since I'm in the military and 3) Not so well versed in the fine arts of cars. I love cars, but have never had the time to get elbows deep. I really hope to remedy this in the some what near future. Thank you in advance to everyone on here.

So here is a couple of pics of my poor little girl the day I got her back from paint and body...one day...one day...

DAVE68, I grew up watching Dukes of Hazzard myself and always wanted the charger. The '69 is great...but to many of them around compared to the '68. IMHO. Chevy's are great. I've always wanted a '56 Bel Air.

Welcome. I too have long since been a fan of the 68-70 Chargers; always had to have one. One day I found the 69 Dart, and thought, "self, that's like a mini-charger..." Smaller, lighter... The dream escalated from there. Looks like a pretty solid start you have there.

Thanks for the welcome. That is the true question..."What are my plans..." Right now I'm just trying to do as much research as I possibly can to find out what I truly want to do. I've had her since Sep of '02, painted in June of '05 (pic's at pick up from paint shop), but she has sat since then. Now that I have some money and a really motivating wife (she loves that I want to get this done!) I'm getting off my rear.

I want to go the PT route since I can't stand the interior of the 60's, so that will get a complete makeover. For the drive train, I'm looking into a 440 bored and stroked to 500ci (EFI), mated up with a T56 Magnum (6-spd, dual OD), still not sure what gearing out back, but I'm keeping my 8 3/4 rear end.

I want the raw power of the Charger, but I still want the comfort, safety (baby on the way) and convenience of a newer car. So the balance begins. If anyone has suggestions on things, I would love to hear them. Still don't know what I'm going to do with the suspension. Do I just rebuild it or replace it with a 4-link system out back...not sure.

Anyways, getting away and ahead of myself. I look forward to learning from everyone here. Enjoy your drive!

      -Doug
