      how 'bout some stories?

i happen to know where there are a half dozen 425HP 409 chevy's.
they were stolen, when new, off of a train car in central MN.
they are under umptine(that is a word isn't it?)bushels of rotten grain on an abandoned farm.

      honest.

there is an old vette gran sport in a barn upstste ny . A friend of mine has seen the car it was taken from a dude that went to jail and never turned in as evidence. the cop who did it panicked and it changed hands a few times and it now sits without a motor or rims in some guys barn.I am convinced my friend told me the truth , he only knew it was a vette race car and he drew the flares and scoops on a picture i had.
there was a guy in mamaroneck with two shelbys rotting beside his house. I tried to ring his doorbell and he screamed at me before I even got near the door. they were eventually SCRAPPED at his request .I never got the whole story why he did that. this was around 1980.
when I was a kid in the 70s on warburten ave in yonkers my mother and i were about to cross the street when She shoved me back and a car flew past us , glanced off a few parked cars and into some trees, I remember the noise like it was yesterday and my mom saying motherf#$%^r! as the dust settled. People filed out of their houses and we all watched as the driver and his bloody passenger surveyed the damage . The passenger had cut his thumb in a boat accident and theywere racing to a hospital up the road. my brother and i kicked pieces of the car around while everyone waited for the tow truck . I will swear on my now deceased mothers grave that the car was a white plymouth superbird. The guy later tooled around town in a green roadrunner with cragars and stickers in the back window.
sorry if I was a little long winded but those are my favorites.

there is is a pole barn about 1.5 miles down the road from my house (as we speak) that has a lift in it. I asked the guy if he would let me use the lift to install headers on my 350 that was in my camaro before my LS1. when I got down there, he opened up the garage and there sat a mustang GT500!!!!!!!!! no joke, about 4 inches of dust and numerous hoods, and other car parts leaning on it. it has original motor, paint, and everything. I asked if he wanted to sell, he said it was parked there by a friend of his about 10 years ago and he is just (storing it) for the guy. the guy said he has no plan of doing anything with it....and he laughed and said it would prolly sit there for the next 10 years.....LOL....he also has 2 grand nationals, a 1996 impala ss MINT with 14,000 miles ( that my buddy who went down there with me bought the next week CHEAP !!!!!!!) a 68 firebird with super low miles, and numerous other cars. let me also say that none have car covers, all filthy with dust but all super clean cars as far as bodys, interior, EVERYTHING......he siad he would buy the limited edition stuff and just keep them....and then sell them to buy new ones....the only reason he sold the 96 to my friend was to use the money towards a z06 c5....but then never bought it...LOL

If you're ever in Chesterfield, Michigan....take a drive down Jefferson avenue along the water and just north of Selfridge Air Force base there's a little tackle shop and boat livery sitting along a tributary. Next to the creek (and coming dangerously close to falling in) is a half covered '69 Mustang Mach 1 (not sure if it's original or a clone). According to the locals it's been sitting there for about 15 years. I know it's been there since I've been in Chesterfield (8 years). I've seen it up close and it's in great condition. Of course, the nut job that owns the tackle shop won't sell it. Says he's going to restore it someday.

      Yeah...right. :bsjerk:

I have plenty of good stories, but the great ones have nothing to do with cars....

Same here. Most are girl on girl action..oops said that out loud! Dang terrets[sp].
None of my car stories would even compare to the ones on here. My fastest car only has half the HP of some of the cars in here. Ive only been on one portion of the Power Tour last year and a day at woodward Dream cruise. Those were the highlights of my car stories. And I have to admit, really good times too. That was just last year. Like I said, weak in comparison to everyone else.

Good car scores? I've got a few...

1988, local Carlisle PA newspaper ad, my '70 Mach, darn good condition, $1200. Served as my daily driver and I still own it.

1988, Ft. Bragg NC newspaper ad, '67 GTO 400 Hurst his/hers, excellent rust free condition, $800. Sold it in '89 for $1800, new owners restored it and sold it for $18k in 1990.

1989, hills outside Carlisle PA newspaper ad, '65 GS convertible, running driving, $500, sold it to my mom and it sits in the family barn in NC

1991, old Korean Sargeant's wife by word of mouth, one owner '72 GS350 convertible, beat but excellent runner, $350. Did nothing but drive it for a year and sold it for $1000.

1993, local Tampa newspaper ad, '72 Nova SS 350, ran good, rebuilt motor, rust free but slow as crap, SS console w/guages, headers w/dual glasspacks, Edelbrock intake, $600. Painted it, swapped in Mitsu Starion seats, installed '70s Pontiac 15" honeycomb wheels with 235/60s, Caddy rear disc swap, Caprice cop car front discs swap. Great car, completely reliable, but too damn slow... sold it for $1500.

In 1989, I went with a friend to look at a a '69 Chevelle for $750. It was stripped bare expcept for a pair of Toyota Supra seats and the stock back seat. It had a 350 and 4 speed, and it was frightening fast. The kicker was the four 2 barrel Holley's on the Offy intake. My friend passed on it since he couldn't handle the 4 speed, and my parents wouldn't let me buy it since we were moving the next month. I later found out that the intake setup was probably one of 3 created for the Gran Sport 'vettes. Still kick myself about that one every once in a while. :(

I've got others, but I'm starting to get depressed. :sad4:

It was the summer of 1989 and I had been saving all my money from working at a semi truck tire repair shop to buy what I considerd at the time to be the perfect car an IROC-Z. I had $6500 dollars when i saw it. It was sitting on a used car lot near my house. It was a 1985 silver with t-tops totally loaded and had 70,000 miles. The dealer said he wanted $6000.00 for it. Needless to say I was at the bank and back to the car lot in record time. I drove that car all summer and then fall came around. i pulled into my driveway with my girlfriend at the time. We went into the house and no more then 3 minutes later I hear my car start up. I run outside and this big dude is tearing out of my drivway. I grab for the passenger side door and reach in the car but only come up with the plastic trim piece from the top of the door.
Well about 6 months go by and I'm driving past that car lot and I swear I see my IROC sitting in the back row. I go home and get the key's and title and go back to the lot well the vin dosen't match but my key opens the door and my ignition key starts the car. The dealer has no explanation and say's he got the car at auction. Turns out he was selling cars to people keeping an extra set of keys and then stealing them back to sell again. I never got the car back because my title and the vin didn't match. The insurance paid my loss and that car lot was gone about 8 months later.

My friend and I looked at 68 RS in 86, the price was $2200, the couple were in the Airforce and the husband was just shipped to Germany, the car was clean no rust, low miles, the owner had pulled off all the modings and trim, but had everything, it had a 327, glide, speed sensor, low fuel warning, tach, gauges, both spoilers, and it ran and drove great, since we showed up in my buddies 69, she told us she'd let us have it for $1200, my buddy didn't want to buy it so he passed, jerk.

My own 68 I bought in 87 from a divorce court lawyer for $200, after it sat in my yard for 5 months, no rust, complete 68 SS, 12 bolt, muncie 4spd, built 350, what a deal!!

I watched my grandfathers 68 442 rust away buy the ocean in Fl, he ordered it new, maroon, painted white top, power windows, power seats, 360hp 400, 3:89 gears TH400, 80,000miles, nice going dad!! but I still got the motor,

Numerous other cars, I junked a 64 Cutlass S 330 hp, just a little rusty, also 68 Cutlass vert' had a nice 68 Impala vert' someone totalled for me, I saw numerous 68 camaros go away, my friends mom junk his original 70 SS454 Chevelle, oops, thats just some, Steve
Steve68- 1968 Camaro SS LSX T56, 12bolt 3:90's, 18" Fikse Profil 13s, Deep Fathom Green paint, Spearcos, just bunch of old junk because another member said so, LOL

      70 Nova SS street/drag 454, T400, 3:55, ugly!

I got my 67 camaro convertible in 2000 for $2000, and turns out a bad p/n switch was all it needed to start. Sat in a storage lot for some 12 years.

One time, I took my bike off a fricken SWEET jump.

My dad's got a lot of those stories about selling tri-5's on his car lot for $800, makes me want to cry.

That site reminds me of the 69 Chevelle I actually had to turn down last year and it was only $100.00 Yes even I turned it down which is not easy for me to do. The rough ones are my favorite but the frame was even rusted thru like paper. Sometimes I wish I would have grabbed it anyway for only $100.

Here's one that makes me cringe.

Not sure on the exact year, but Circa '81 my Dad was talking to his friend, (who he'd known since they were kids). They guy had a '70 Chevelle LS6/M22 car and OFFERED it to my Dad. He was just getting on the FDNY, and also had no garage. For the New Yorkers on the board, you'll know that the 'velle wouldn't have lasted a night parked on the street in Canarsie (Brooklyn). He declined. From what I've heard, the car was in VERY good shape.

This will probably get me barred from this site but I had a smash up derby with a friend when we were in high school . he had an impala station wagon and I had my beater. The bad news is my beater was a rusty 307 69 camaro. You can call me whatever you want, but leave my mother out of it. The worst part is when I was shopping for a camaro a year ago , I must have seen fifty cars just like it for five grand!

Heres a story i had heard from someone else...

Somewhere out east, a there was a listing in the news paper for a clean 69 Camaro for $5,000... So this guy goes to check the car out. He speaks with the owner before he sees the car... The owner is a younger female. It was her fathers car and he had passed away several years ago, and aparently the car hasnt moved in 10-15 years anyway. he goes into the garage to see the car, takes one look at it.... turns to her and says "Maam I cant buy this car from you at that price" She asks "Why? Is the price to high?" he responds "No its far to low, you see what you have here is a very rare ZL1 and its worth a lot of money, get it appraised and sell it for what its worth"
