      Roll bar rust removal

so i installed an 8 point cage in my car about 6 months ago and like in idiot didnt prime it or anything so it has started to surface rust pretty badly. i dont want it to start pitting so i am trying to figure out what the best way to remove it would be. i have a grinder with a wire wheel that i could use. or should i go with a rust remover product, or maybe muriatic acid- Thanks Nick

Going to need some beer , a friend or 2 , roll of 80 grit , and some TLC . Start scratching ! A grinder will only set you back . It won't take that long . But be prepared to put something on it as soon as your done . Like some metal prep from painters supply . Hope this helps

sounds like fun, is 80 grit gonna leave too deep of scratches?

I did the same thing on a Fairlane I'm building but I used 180 grit. You could start with 80 but if it isn't rusted a lot use 180.

Get some cloth-backed sandpaper, then you can rip it into strips and pull back and forth with it around the tubing. It will go much faster than most any other kind of sanding.

Oh, and paint it this time

I had the same thing happen and used 150 grit emery cloth and a motion that kind of resembles this.

by some emory cloth in a roll in whatever grit you need. J&L industrial supply sells it. Then you don't need to tear in strips, just lengths.
