Short Wheel Studs?

Anyone know where to find "stubby" wheel studs? 12x1.5mm

I have strange engineering axles and they came with some long bolts, bolts not studs. They were too long for my wheels. I trimmed them off on the lathe. But I dont see any problem cutting them down with an abrasive saw and prepping the ends for nuts. If you have a set already and they are too long. JR

Dorman? But you'd also need to know the spline, ID and depth of the seats, right? Try to match with another application?

I'd guess it might be easier to do what JRouche says. Get the new set, thread a lug nut on them, cut them, prep the end, remove the nut, and reinstall?

What's "stubby" to you? That's starting to sound a bit too personal :P...for shorter M12x1.5 wheel studs with bulleted noses, I really like the ARP #100-7710 studs. They have a 47mm under head length of which probably 10mm give or take is the bulleted nose. They're for Honda/Acura applications IIRC, but work great where a shorter stud is required.

It's for a modern ('01) Oldsmobile. IIRC, the studs are the same 12mm x 1.5 as every modern GM. The length after the spline needs to be no more than 15mm. I have not measured the stock pieces yet. I am designing some bolt pattern adapters, which are only 15mm thick...

JR, If I can not find a stud in the appropriate length, I will just cut them. Figured I would ask prior to cutting.

I'm trying to go from 5x115 to something more popular, such as 5x4.75. Soon after I posted the original thread, I realized most OEM rims have pockets clocked in the dead-zone, so the studs can actually hang past the adapter a touch.

Todd, for an adapter of that thickness (anything less than 7/8" [22mm]), you should plan on the wheel studs and lug nut extending through the adapter and into the wheel relief pockets in order to maintain the necessary strength and thread engagement. You need at make sure you have 8-turns of thread engagement, so at least 1/2" [12mm]. You don't want to make your adapter too thin at the lug nut seat or you could have issues with your nuts loosening and/or outright material failure.

What '01 Oldsmobile are you working on? Are you factoring in the thickness of the rotor when figuring your wheel stud length assuming it's a slip-on type? Wheel studs are measured in terms of their total under head length and then the shoulder length is typically specified separately, so just giving a thread length after the shoulder is not particularly helpful. That said, the shortest OE replacement M12x1.5 studs that I know of are in the mid-30mm range.
