      2 Bolt BBC

Hi my car mount a 454 (460 Real) Big Chevy 2 Bolt and stock cast crankshaft my question is what is the maximum number of HP or TQ if can support this shorblock and rotanting assembly?
I would like to increase the power for a street use, currently i run whit small valve oval por heads and 8.5:1 compression ratio,i wast think to change heads camshaft and upgrade the valvetrain and increase the compression ratio 9.5-10:1 I need some advice.

      this its the engine

Thanks for the help and sorry for my bad english

Depending on what type of rods and pistions you are using you should be fine for anything you are planning. Even stock rods and pistons will be fine, if you were thinking of a moderate amount of N20 use or forced induction then some upgrades may be in your best interest. A set of closed chamber/big valve oval ports with a decent hyd or solid cam and good intake/carb should satisfy you for a while.

For a 454 up grade to decent oval port big valve heads will kill a tiny bit of torque, with 3/8 rods and cast crank (cast or hyperutectic cast pistons) figure on keepint it around 6000 on a tight engine and if it has miles keep it 5500 and down.
Forged pistons will live longer and cast crank can be made to live in 600-650 range with good oiling and fasteners.
Add in a steel crank and good forged pistons and even a 3/8 bolt(aftermarket rod bolts) big block rod will run well into the 750 hp range.
For all out dragracing at least good rod prep and 7/16 rod bolts will make 750 and maybe a little shot of giggle.
BUT if you wonder about freshening up check out www.ohiocrank.com, I use these guys for rotating assembiles and have never had any issues ever, heck I have even bought blem kits (ie crank grinder effed up and had to turn crank undersize) with no issues.
2 bolt blocks get bad rap but honestly NA engines just dont really need the 4 bolt if you use good fasteners ie ARP. 500 hp is a breeze with 2 bolt low compression peanut port 454 headed engines, heck one of the magazines did one and made 600hp from later peanut port oval ports heads.
Try here http://www.mortec.com/ for casting numbers and valve sizes when looking at stock heads. The stock stuff ain half bad for guys on budgets.

Really depends on what you plan to do with the car....

If any of you follow nostaglia drag racing, Arnold Birky ran a 2 bolt block for a season on nitro, he swapped the block out when one of his crew members bought an aluminum block from Keith black. If Birky could keep it together, anyone else should be able too as well. I have personally never seen a broken main cap before on any big block, the rods usually break before that happens...
