Getting back into the madness...
Joined today while looking at ideas for a custom center console. A few years back my late wife and I started an LS1/T56 swap on her 67 camaro. Bad Penny was a big influence at the time, though we do not have the money, connections, or weather Steve does. We documented the build on LS1Tech (hall of fame swap under 67RSSS, my prefered username which someone already has on this forum). Not too bad for a couple of noobs, and it drives well. We took it on a couple power tours, and it handles alright, and has too much power for the tires. Unfortunately, going to go back to 14 inch rallye wheels and 225/75 redlines, that will be even worse!!!!
I need to figure out pictures on here, but pics of the car can be found on our fquick page.
We did a lot of things that are much easier to do now, and last power tour we made it as far as Dayton before health (cancer complicaitons) and car troubles set in. The Ididit Rag joint seperated in Dayton, as soon as I got my wife to the hospital. We had been at Ididit the day before! I fixed it with some bolts I scrounged from the horn assembly on the front of the car, and it got us back home to MN once she was able to leave. Unfortunately, she died a few weeks later, and the car has sat about in the garage.
After months of being mad/sad/pissed/ and lost, I have decided to work on her car again. We had been working towards a marina blue caint job with parchment interior. Plan has changed a little. Can't afford to do paint for a while, but can work out some of the simple things that have come up. Vintage air is kitting up a Sure Fit kit to work with the LS1, ordered electric-life power window kit, have some ProCar Rally seats on the way (in White, close enough to parchment for now), and they even have a rear seat cover. Ordered a bunch of dyna mat, new carpet, thinking real hard about upgrading to tinted window glass. Haven't worked out what i want to do about gauges, but thinking about going to the Classic Instruments in dash setup and selling the factory gauges and console. I have a hell of a time reading the things, and the console is worthless as an armrest. With it moved back a bit to help with the T56, it doesn't look right anyway.
Look for some bad questions as I slowly alter that car for better handling and braking over the next few winters.
Oh, and anyone have pics of a 73 or later console in a first gen? Looks like the armrest is more usable. I could take the area ahead of the shift boock and reshape it for a couple cup holders!
