New Ohio legislation that would re-define "street racing" has already passed the state HR and is now before the Senate.

(excerpt) The bill expands the definition of "street racing" to also include "any exhibition of speed or acceleration that is inconsistent with the normal operation of a vehicle on a public road, street, or highway." In addition, the bill provides that persons rendering assistance or encouragement in any form or manner to the defined competitive use of vehicles must be equally charged as participants (bill's additions to existing law are in italics)



It gets better (or worse)...

(excerpt) Under the bill, in addition to any other sanctions, the court must order the criminal forfeiture of the motor vehicle the offender was operating at the time the offender committed street racing.

If you're thinking that you could be cited for punching it to get through a red light and LOSE YOUR CAR...you're right!

Dang, the precedent this could set scares me.
Is street racing with nitrous a real big problem in Ohio?
No more driving the car to the strip after this law, if it gets enacted.

I don't understand what the hell these comments have to do with the proposed law, opposition to the law or the car hobby in general.

I assume, based on this example, I can freely start dropping veiled political comments in any thread that strikes my fancy.

I understand. Maybe by making people aware of where the anti-car, anti-racing, anti-performance politicians are mainly found, the risk of continuing to put their sorry a$$es in office, we decrease the chances that more laws such as this are rammed down our collective throughts, eh? If you have one political group continuing to force such legislation down our throats that day by day kills our hobby, then it's relevant. This legislation is not "health care reform" (gag). It's car related.

You are correct. My original source was totaling combined numbers in the legislative and executive branches (and fed) which is a distinct D majority.

More Government is never the answer to a problem and more Government control over the populace is a benefit only to the Government. Government seizure of private property is simply a violation of the US Constitution. One group in particular specializes in the provision of more of each.

They won't... Because street racing is evil. Who can honestly defend street racing. I do say this as someone who has been cited for street racing years ago, and still is easily tempted while in a safe area to demonstrate my cars ability to go fast...

That bill has little to do with street racing. The people who oppose that bill may not know it, but the politicians who vote that bill down know darn well what its all about. Wonder if SEMA can get involved?

I am certain Ohio already has a law against careless and imprudent driving.

So once again its bureaucrats using fear and a said "danger" to legislate overreaching power and control over 'civilians'. It's another power/revenue grab and a huge strike against personal property ownership and liberty under the guise of "safety".

Agreed, sort of like the Republicans in Congress taking jurisdiction over Terry Schiavo away from the entire state of Florida, and substituting thier own political agenda for the legal and factual findings in a thoroughly litigated case.

In other words, the issue isn't Dems vs. Reps., it's politicians blowing with the wind (and, of course, mostly following the money). By the way, 39 (out of 46) Reps. voted for this Ohio bill.
