      Flywheel bolts

Okay, this is a stupid question... but I figure better safe than sorry.

I need to bolt the flywheel to the 396 for the Chevelle, but the bolts didn't come with the engine. From looking at the ARP website, it looks like the flywheel bolts they sell are 7/16-20x1".

Is there a need for a special high-end bolt like these, or are any grade 5/grade 8 sufficient here?

I would highly recommend Grade 8 Only - due in part to the shear forces involved. The flywheel bolts are a shallow head design versus the standard head height and ARP sells everything for your application. If you don't see it on the website give them a call.

      Derek,

I don't know the answer to your question, but having done about a million clutch swaps over the years, I can't recommend anything but the best possible flywheel bolts. The cost seems high, I know, but the labor to replace them is considerable. I'd take a deep breath, eat peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches for a month, and get the ARPs.
