swapping mini spool for posi, got a question

Hey guys,
When I purchased this car it came with an 8.2 with a mini-spool and 3:73 gears. It now has mosier axles b/c one of my bearings went out and swapped the axles.
My gears are in great shape and don't make any noise, I just hate the mini-spool. I'm thinking about buying a posi and sticking it in my self.

Since the gears are already set, I should just be able to measure the back lash. Pull the mini spool out, pull the ring gear off the spool. Put the ring gear on the posi. Put the posi back in with the exact same back lash. Am I correct?
I imagine I'll have to find some shims to get the back lash correct. Where can I get shims?

I have never done it, but I am betting there will be more work than that involved.

I have done that a few times with no problem.
you may be able to find the shims local.look in your phone book for some shop that rebuilds clutches and rearends.We have one called clutch and power train.
