      th350 problems

Think I fried my th-350 again. My car had been acting up, felt like its noseing over 5400rpms in first and had a funny smell when it happened. I did some testing, found low fuel pressure and replaced my pump. Problem went away so I thought. Now its doing the same thing in first gear and the trans fluid smells burn't. Also last week the trans would not shift to first even with the selector in first, but that problem went away. I think I know the answer and it involves pulling the trans, just wondering what you guys think.

If you loose low/reverse good possibility you have a bad direct drum. If its not too burnt look for local tranny builder and have it went through, may also have low roller clutch getting weak/worn. I really need to get another Motor Repair Manual, had one but got stolen.

If the fluid smells burnt it's probably hurt.

My advice is to be SURE you have the shifter properly adjusted. I prefer to adjust it with both the trans and shifter in the 3rd gear position.

If you need a bulletproof TH350 let us know.

Well took it to the local guy who built it and come to find out the bolts that came in the summit deep pan kit that I put on in spring were a few threads to short and when the pan came off the filter was in the bottom. So no fluid equals burnt trans. Thanks summit! Although I prob should have paid more attention.

      Hmmm,
I don't think that's the cause of your problem if the fluid was full.

A TH350 filter is attached to the VB, so even if the filter fell off, the VB and inlet would still be submerged in fluid.

Not ideal to have unfiltered fluid but not causing a pickup problem either.

Really, do you think the front pump could have blown? I do know the front pump had to be replaced and all the clutches.
