      Transverse mufflers?

I am looking at putting exhaust on my 67 Camaro. My 68 and 69 Camaro's had your regular flowmasters on them but when I drove behind the cars I couldn't stand the look of the mufflers hanging down where they were visible. I am wanting to go with a 3'' exhaust for my big block but was looking for something to go back into the regular stock location tucked up under the rear seat location and then dumping out the side behind the wheel if they fit with my mini-tub setup. Any suggestions.

      Mike

I had a 2nd gen Firebird with a Flowmaster transverse muffler, two in and two out but it was 2.5". It's what came with their kit and I was really happy with the sound inside and out, none of the drone associated with the typical underslung Flowmasters. The lack of sparks on the freeway when we hit a dip was also a plus. The pipes were a tight fit so I don't know if it would fit a mini tub. I also noticed later that the muffler had a big dent in it from the axle bottoming out against it.

Story time: When the car still belonged to my friend and it had the too-low mufflers hanging out the bottom I could see one of them sagging. I told him about it and he looked at it later and he said it was fine. Our disagreements continued for months how I thought it looked awful and he didn't think anything of it. Turns out the e-brake cable would pull the muffler up so when he'd look at it after parking it was fine.

I too had the Flowmaster 2-1/2" transverse muffler. The problem I had with it was that the trunk turned into a pizza oven on hot days from the radiant heat. It was especially hot if the car was stuck in traffic.
