Anyone running a Megasquirt controller?
I'm using an MS-II in an MS-I v2.2 board that will be controlling both fuel and spark but I'm trying to get it setup on fuel only for the time being.
Been to the www.msefi.com website for help but that place can be like a ghost town with nobody answering questions and thought maybe someone here could help. Even if you don't have an MS ECU, I'm sure most of my questions probably encompass most any aftermarket ECU EFI setup.
I had my car starting and idling pretty decent but it was extremely rich. Enough to make your eyes burn after a little while and develop small smoke haze in the barn.
I did a datalog of the cranking and idle and then a few revs to see what happens. I noticed my AFR's were really rich. Bouncing between 9.0-13.5 at idle. Then I checked my AFR table and found it to be off. I changed it to a file that was more appropriate as well as my VE table.
Tried starting the car last night and couldn't keep it running. It was hard to start, which I thought was odd since I hadn't changed the cranking pulse widths since the previous start. Once it was running, it was chugging pretty badly like it was going to die any moment. Normally on a carburated car you could just increase the idle a bit by putting your foot on the gas to keep it running. Tried this with the MS and it did actually idle like that but as soon as I took my foot off the gas, it would try to die again.
I read the Megamanual and saw where it said once you tune the VE table that you'll more than likely have to go back and retune the warmup enrichments. Is this one of those cases?
I was going to reload one of my older tunes that I know started okay and give them a try but my battery went dead so I've been charging it.
For some of you pros that are good at tuning EFI, how do you typically start out the process? I have been starting by tweaking the Cranking Pulse Widths and the Afterstart Enrichments. Then trying to move onto adjusting the VE table. But like I said above, when I adjusted the VE table one night and reloaded it to the ECU, I had problems keeping the engine running. Before that it would at least start pretty decently.
I do plan to eventually take the car to a shop with a chassis dyno but I want to at least get the car idling and running halfway consistent before that point.
Thanks for any and all help,Andrew
