      9 inch problems

my rear end is acting weird. it is a posi with 4:11's. it chirps around turns all the time. When i take off you can feel something engage. kinda feels like a trans slipping and then all the sudden engaging, it jerks a little bit. also, when i shift around a turn the car kind of steers funny. everything on my car has been replaced except this rear end. should i just get a new posi unit?

      thanks

I need to know what is in it now. Is it a factory Ford Traction Lock? If it is then you need to remove it now and inspect it. These differentials have a weak side cover on them that breaks and can cause major rear end damage. If the cover isn't broke then you need to disassemble the differential and inspect the clutches, left axle gear and the 4 pinion gears for damage. If this problem has just started then don't keep driving it like it is. Check it out before any more damage is done.

yeah this problem has been here for a while. could this cause wheel hop? i have horrible wheel hop and good suspension. i have had the rear end apart but nothing looked broken but im no rear end professional so i might have over looked it.

Are you using a limited slip additive, or straight gearlube? Concerning wheelhop, what do you have for shox?

If the clutches are set up too tight in the Traction Lock it will pop when turning. You can't set up the clutches as tight in one of these as you can in an Eaton Posi.

Definitely a decent reas suspension set-up. Pinion angle maight be another thing to check. Needs to be down in relation to the driveshaft, probably at least 2 degrees + with the manual trans.

Sounds like a normal Detroit Locker to me. Sure you don't have a locker differential in the rear instead of a Trac-Loc?
