olds 455 help
I am working on an olds and need a little help.
Background.
Friend bought a 73 olds, with a 455. It ran rough, smoked.
Pulled engine out. Turned out to be a 68 model with c casting heads, stock dish pistons.
I cleaned it up, added a W30 repop cam, new hydrulic lifters, roller timing set, new stock volume oild pump.
Added Felpro permatourge head gaskets.
Sent the heads to the best local machine shop. Had them resurfaced, 3 angle valve job, all new guides, all new valves. Set springs to match cam,new springs and retainers and seals.
Added a used ebelbrock intake. Holley 3310 carb.
New HEI distrubuter.
Got the car running. Broke in cam.
Car smokes very badly still and lackes power.
I have not had a chance to really dial in the timing, or carb.
The smoke is white, maybe a hint of blue.
Did a compression check
120 120 118 118
120 115 115 118
Pressurinzed cooling system, held pressure for about 10 minutes, not drop no leaks.
The smoking has me concerned.
Could it be the carb that far off? The floats were a little high.
What would be a good timing setting?
This is my first dealings with an olds motor.
The bores looked very good, not a ridge at the top of the cylinders.
Any help would be great!
