      factory five builders?

i was lookin at kit cars the other night, and found the FFR GTM. i like the look and that its so bad ass for a pretty reasonable price, still spendy though.
      http://www.factoryfive.com/gtmhome.html

i was wondering if anyone here has built one, seen one, or anything

if built: how long did it take, did it go together fairly simple

and damn porsche transxles are spendy!

i would love to do this but it would take a while to even start, i'd look at pickin up a decent C5 and cruise with it for a while til i got the kit and made the vette a complete donor

      shootz!

If you're not into the trans axle, you can always throw an LS motor into an FFR Cobra (or Daytona Coupe or whatever) and you'd still have an awesome car. I'd really love to build an FFR Cobra one day.

I built an FFR Cobra back in '99:

Very well engineered product. Great company to deal with and they have a huge following (see FFCobra link listed above).

I've looked into building one as well. I would suggest trying one on for size before starting the project. A local shop, Thunder Valley Customs in Carterville, GA had one in their shop for paint work and it took extensive bodywork to finish properly.

My deal was gettin in and out of the thing. I'm 5'10" and over 200lbs so it was a chore to get in and then to get out it was easier to just roll onto the ground then stand up.

      Cool ride though.

My idea was to leave the 'glass body raw, and drive the piss out of it. But I need to sell my Nova first (for reasons both financial and space-related), and I haven't had much luck with that. :(

Mendeola and Ricardo both make much stronger transaxles than the Porsche unit, though they cost a lot ($10K+). I was going to use an Isis wiring kit, LS3, make my own headers and exhaust, and adapt all the donor C5 climate controls, mirrors, and seats.

      Some day. Perhaps.

I really like the '33 Hot Rod kit... I think it would be fun to roll into the old geezer shows with something like that...

FFR makes a quality kit. That GTM is pretty insane, its just a little rough to get in and out of.
I've always been a fan of there Cobras, well built with plenty of options and very reasonable priced.

That 33 is bad ass. That car ran something like 2 seconds faster than the race spec cobra at the track.

Love the GTM. Would like to build one someday for fun. May also consider picking up a Cobra replica that someone else lost interest in for a decent price and finish it off.

I looked into the GTM also, not a car for tall people, they say 6'3 max but that's pushing it, if you want to take the car to the track you'd need to be a lot shorter to get a helmet on. It seems like there cars are engineered by a 5'6" tall engineer for some reason.

Build cost is $60k+ on a GTM, more if you go wild on the motor, wheels, brakes, etc. A local builder has is doing the paint work on one, ~400hrs into the body! 240hrs seems to be the min just to get to primer. So that tells me the panel fit isn't that hot.

If it would fit a taller driver I'd do what Parsons mentioned, raw fiberglass as a track car. -Dan

thats what i was thinkin, raw body with flat paint and blacked out everythin else.
      tuckin 335's!!!

i need to get my firebird going, its been sittin for SO long

i would probably pick up a vette and cruise it for a little bit then it'd be a great donor, used parts is the only way i could make this work, but it'd bang either way
then i could have a chance racing with my friend and his FD RX-7 LSx

do they have any finnacing otions, doubt it, theres no way i can afford this buggar at 22

its a good dream though, just gotta make it come true

To those mentioning the car's size, yes they are small. The FFR Cobra is dimensionally identical to the cars from the 60's. AC's were small cars with track intentions, not big comfy boulevard cruisers.

I looked at their booth at Carlisle and was pleased. I'm also in the group that would leave the body raw - I really liked the 33 ford. Their design point was to have it handle better than their cobra!

The problem with all FFR stuff is that they don't provide for sway bars. Especially in the 33 and the GTM: putting one in will take some effort.
