Sandhills Open Road Challenge- FUN stuff!

I dragged the wagon out to the middle of Nebraska to run this deal: www.sorcrace.com

What a great time! It's an open road event (rally-style, like the Silver State Challenge) and it's very well run. Everyone is friendly, the road is challenging, and they have 1/2-mile and 1-mile standing-start runs the day prior to the rally.

The old wagon doesn't have a cage, so I was limited to the 1/2-mile sprint. I ran it the way I drive it on the street (full exhaust w/ tailpipes, pump gas, Nitto 555s) and hit 129 mph in the 1/2-mile. I was at 6,200 or so in 4th gear in the T56 when I went through the lights.

The rally deal threw my nav off a bit, so we didn't win our class. But we did have a great time and the car was flawless on the road. This was its first real test at sustained high speeds (110-120 most of the time, slower in the turns) and it didn't get hot or miss a beat.

I will be back to Arnold Nebraska (pop. 610) to run this event again!
Amazingly- mine was the only Chevelle there! Lots of Vettes, Vipers, Mustangs, and F-bodies. But that's expected...It was fun to be different!

Awesome! These events are a lot of fun - hopefully more and more Pro Touring cars will be participating in the future - it's a great opportunity to leg your car out in a controlled environment.

      Agreed-

Too many bone-stock Vettes, Vipers, Mustangs, and F-bodies, IMO. A sprinkling of vintage tin would really add a lot of color and flavor to this deal...

...plus I'd have really cool people to drink with...LOLOL!!

I will return, and I hope some of you guys join me out there. If you live in the midwest, it's the closest thing to Silver State we've got.

I'd really love to drive out for an event like that, but they always seem to be out west. Anyone know of any on the east coast?
