If you already have 2k into the motor....2k which you will likely not get back for selling that motor, and the ranger is in good shape body wise.....I say go with that.....having a truck bed handy is always....well.....handy!

I used to live in the rust belt, and my rec. is go with the one that has the least amount of rust.....rust isn't just a body issue....lots of components fail because of rust, fuel lines, brake lines, pulleys chew through belts (after prolonged sitting obviously), and putting your foot through the floor of your track car doesnt sound like my idea of a fun time.

1985 Peugeot Turbo 4cyl. w/5 speed (in a garage for a while now)
      1991 Camaro Conv. (For sale)
      2003 Saturn L200 5 Speed

I got one from the last 4 decades....not too shabby!

yeah you are correct about that, I will not get what I have into the motor... I already own a truck; a 2006 Ford Ranger STX that I love using as a truck!!! This truck will be a versitile vehicle; meaning it will be a Track/Drag strip/autocross/Fun Driver type of vehicle... and hopefully one day I could go to some events with other pro-tourers...
